“Hey Schoenweiss, There’s No Crying In Baseball!”

I was disappointed to read Charlie Nobles’ column in the Times today about Scott Schoenweiss. The interview is filled with excuses about his deplorable performance last season. He has excuses about injuries from 2005 and getting down on himself because the fans and media were tough on him.

I don’t buy any of his excuses and I felt insulted as a fan while reading this article. This is professional sports, it’s not a game being played for fun. We’re playing to win, Scott! So if a player is on the field, he can’t have any excuses. If you’re injured, go to the trainers room. If you’re hurt by fans and media that are tough on you, go play in Tampa or Pittsburgh. John Maine: Save Something For The Regular Season

Maine has looked good this spring and appears to be building on last years 15-win season. Bart Hubbach has a good column in today’s edition of the Post.

Maine has pitched 10 consecutive scoreless innings now and has a 2.63 ERA this spring. As I’ve said before in my posts “Don’t get too excited about spring training performances”. But I think Maine has a chance to have a very good, long career in baseball. I like his calm demeanor and his stuff is above average. I can’t remember seeing him look rattled on the mound. Angel Pagan In Left Field… I Don’t Think So

Angel Pagan

The Mets beat writers and blogsphere self-regarded experts are beginning to anoint Angel Pagan as the Mets opening day left fielder. While Pagan is having an incredible spring, it’s not like we’ve never seen a March phenom before. You can see all of the Mets spring training statistics here.

Let’s not forget that Pagan has only two years of major league experience with the Cubs. His career numbers are: 148 games 318 AB’s .255 BA 9 HR 39 RBI 8 SB’s Continue reading “Angel Pagan In Left Field… I Don’t Think So”

Breaking News: AP Reports Mets Likely Host 2013 All-Star Game

This is what we’ve been waiting for! I’m not a huge fan of All-Star games in general. Although baseball is easily the best all-star game in professional sports. Having an event like this at Citi Field is really exciting. I’d be thrilled to get a ticket for that one.

“We were informed by the commissioner that after moving into City Field, we would have an All-Star game but no date has been set,” Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz said Thursday following similar comments by chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon to ESPN.com.

The current hosting order is: Yankees, Cardinals, Angels, Arizona, and Kansas City. Read the entire story here.
