Pedro Martinez First Start A Success

Marty Noble reports for MLB.com that Pedro pitched well against the Tigers today. He pitched four scoreless innings (58 pitches) and gave up four hits. He was slow to cover first on a ground ball by Timo Perez of all people! All in all it was a successful outing.

“I’m right where I want to be,” was Martinez’s general self-assessment, the only assessment that matters. Continue reading “Pedro Martinez First Start A Success”

War of Words Continues with Phillies

Mark Hale of the Post reports that Jimmy Rollins and Billy Wagner are still jawing about the upcoming season series.

“That wasn’t a one-year thing,” Rollins said. “It’s still gonna ring true in 2008 and every year I’m with the Phillies. We’re going to win. It’s gonna come down to who wants it more, and we want to win more than the Mets do.” Continue reading “War of Words Continues with Phillies”

Pedro Martinez Spring Debut Tomorrow

Pedro goes against the Tigers in PSL tomorrow making his first start of the spring. It’ll be interesting to see how many innings he’ll pitch. I would guess it’ll be three. The norm has been two innings for pitchers making their first start and the Mets have always been especially cautious with Pedro. There are only two weeks left until opening day so I hope that they give Pedro a longer leash if he’s feeling good.

Anthony DiComo provides the coverage for MLB.com with the obligatory quote from Johan Santana about how excited he is to spend time with Pedro this year.

Luis Castillo Back In the Lineup Today

Charlie Nobles of the Times reports that Castillo felt good today after playing in his first game of the spring. He had off season surgery on his right knee. He appeared to be hobbling around after his mid-season trade from the Twins last year.

Carlos Delgado hit a home run today. Hopefully, his spring slump will come to an end soon. It would be difficult to watch the Mets cleanup hitter go through another dreadful season like he had last year. He’s always been a streaky hitter throughout his career.  Maybe the streak will start going in the right direction.
