Verducci writes some great columns for SI. This particular piece mentions Pedro Martinez as a potential pitcher ready to make a big jump from last year’s injury plagued season.
Luis Castillo is the last Met to appear in a spring training game. He hopes to play Saturday. I have a feeling this four year deal with Castillo is going to be an albatross on the Mets for years to come. I wouldn’t have offered him more than two years.
Ed Coleman of WFAN reported the rumor that the Mets were working on a deal with the Red Sox for Coco Crisp for Angel Pagan. This move doesn’t make any sense to me. The Mets don’t need another light-hitting defensive outfielder. They already have two: Angel Pagan and Endy Chavez. The Mets need a corner outfielder/first baseman with a little pop in his bat.
No surprise this Mets fan picks the Mets to win the league. I’m not sure how much credence I put in his opinion, but in this case I agree with him.
