2010 NL East Champs?

Houston Astros vs St. Louis Cardinals

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsDid you think I was talking about the Mets? Funny! Actually I was imagining what it would be like to just take the whole Cardinals team and trade them for the whole Mets team. Imagine that… Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday, that pitching staff, a possible future Hall of Fame manager, Mark McGuire! At least the Yankees wouldn’t kick us around during inter-league play and we could stand toe-to-toe with the Phillies.

But alas, we are stuck with our poor Mets who are now in St. Louis where they’ll spend three games against a team, I think, that would win the National League East.

They will win it because of a pitching staff I am just drooling all over. Omar Minaya, take note. This is a pitching staff. Watch the Mets pitching, including Johan Santana, get rocked by Pujols and Company. Watch the weak hitting Mets made to look silly by the Cardinals superb pitching staff. Watch a team come to play. A team that doesn’t believe in comebacks because they are up right from the start.

Unfortunately, for this series the Mets get to face Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter. Both of them were in contention for the Cy Young Award last year. Luckily, they don’t have to face Brad Penny who I am a big fan of. Possibly one of the hardest throwers in baseball.

I’m hoping the Mets get swept. You can question whether or not I’m a true Mets fan because I’m hoping the Mets lose but I believe that the sooner Omar and Jerry are out of here, the better. Go get Bobby Valentine. Let’s put this team back together now rather than at the All-Star break when it’s too late. The longer this fiasco goes on the more likely we suffer yet another playoff-less year.

So my fellow Mets fans, enjoy this weekend series. We might get swept. We might get embarrassed. But there will be a mighty fine baseball team in the other dugout that will come to play good, sound, fundamental baseball and they will be fun to watch. Maybe they will teach the Mets a lesson or two.

  1. My bold prediction for the weekend:Ollie pitches up to the competition, as he is apt to do, and goes 6 strong innings. Met's win 3-1Santana comes out hungry and goes 7. Met's win 8-2Maine goes back to his Rick Petersen style of pitching and clocks in an effective 5+ innings. Met's win 6-3.Jason Bay quadruples his RBI total this weekend.

    1. Good call on Ollie! He went 6 strong innings and was winning when he left the game. I hope Santana comes back with a vengeance today from that bad start against the Nationals.

      1. Looks like I'm getting the pitching predictions down pat. Just your standard Johan dominance. Sadly, the offense is pathetic today (end of the 13th). I don't think Bay/Wright could hit the ball off a tee right now.
