Preview: Cardinals at Mets July 27, 2010

St. Louis Cardinals (55-44) at New York Mets (50-48) 7:10pm

Adam Wainwright (14-5 1.94) vs Jon Niese (6-4 3.54)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Cardinals come to town after losing two of three to the Cubs. But they’ve been hot over the last couple of weeks, winning eight in a row at one point. Garcia is having an incredible rookie season but he did get hit hard by the Dodgers two starts ago. Niese has pitched really well despite the Mets losing the last three games he started. The team scored a combined four runs in those three games behind him.

Preview: Mets at Dodgers July 25, 2010

New York Mets (50-48) at Los Angeles Dodgers (52-46) 4:10pm

R.A. Dickey (6-4 2.73) vs Clayton Kershaw (9-5 3.15)

TV: WPIX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to even the series at 2-2 before heading home today from this 11 game road trip. The Mets have lost the last five games that Dickey started despite him pitching very well in his last four starts. The Dodgers have lost the last two games that Kershaw started. He hasn’t pitched as well over those starts against the Cardinals and Giants giving up 6 earned runs over 10.1 IP.

Preview: Mets at Dodgers July 24, 2010

New York Mets (50-46) at Los Angeles Dodgers (51-46) 4:10pm

Mike Pelfrey (10-5 4.01) vs Carlos Monasterios (3-2 3.61)

TV: FOX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets finally got a win last night and have a chance to take control of this series and possibly redeem themselves for an awful road trip this afternoon. Unfortunately, they have to do it behind Pelfrey who has just been dreadful. He hasn’t had a good start since the middle of June and appears to be getting worse with every start. He gave up 6 runs in 1.1 innings in Arizona in his last start. Monasterios has been working long relief for the Dodgers. He hasn’t started a game since he got rocked on June 18 by the Red Sox. We could see an offensive explosion by both teams today.

Preview: Mets at Dodgers July 23, 2010

New York Mets (49-46) at Los Angeles Dodgers (51-45) 10:10pm

Johan Santana (7-5 2.87) vs Vicente Padilla (4-2 3.65)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are falling fast on this road trip but they may have a chance tonight behind Santana. He’s been pitching brilliantly in his last four starts only allowing 2 runs over that span. But the Mets still need to score. That could be a problem against Padilla who has pitched really well in his last five starts only allowing 5 runs over that span.

Preview: Mets at Dodgers July 22, 1010

New York Mets (49-45) at Los Angeles Dodgers (50-45) 10:10pm

Hisanori Takahashi (7-4 4.69) vs Hiroki Kuroda (7-8 3.74)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets stagger into LA for a four game series starting tonight. The Dodgers have been playing almost as poorly as the Mets losing six straight before getting a win last night. Takahashi got destroyed by the Giants in his last start to the tune of 6 runs in 2.2 innings. This very well could be his last start if he can’t pull it together. The Dodgers have lost four of the last five games that Kuroda started but he pitched well in his last start against the Cardinals going 6 innings and allowing only 1 run.

Preview: Mets at D-Backs July 21, 2010

New York Mets (49-44) at Arizona D-Backs (35-58) 9:40pm

Jon Niese (6-4 3.44) vs Dan Haren (7-8 4.60)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to avoid a sweep to the lowly D-Backs tonight  behind Niese. He’s pitched really well in his last four starts but lost his last two because of no run support. Haren is a top of the line pitcher but the D-Backs have lost the last six games he started. In his last start against the Padres he got rocked for 6 runs in 5 innings.

Preview: Mets at D-Backs July 20, 2010

New York Mets (49-44) at Arizona D-Backs (35-58) 9:40pm

R.A. Dickey (6-3 2.62) vs Barry Enright (1-2 3.45)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets will try to dust themselves off after getting their asses handed to them last night behind Dickey. He pitched a nice game in a loss in San Francisco in his last start going 7 innings and allowing only 1 run. Enright is making his fourth career start and has been okay so far for the D-Backs. He’s right-handed but righties have hit him much better than lefties (.286 to .176) in a limited sample.
