Preview: Mets at Brewers June 8, 2011

New York Mets (29-31) at Milwaukee Brewers (34-27) 8:10pm

Mike Pelfrey (3-4 5.56) vs. Randy Wolf (4-4 3.69)

TV: ESPN              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets can take the series in Milwaukee tonight with a win behind Pelfrey. Although his last start against the Pirates was hideous, giving up 7 runs in 5 innings of a no-decision. The Mets have lost three of the last four games that he started. He’ll need to do better than that tonight to get a win.

Wolf didn’t pitch that well in his last start in Florida either. It was a no-decision for him too when he went 5 innings and gave up 4 runs. But the Brewers have won the last three straight games that Wolf started. In his career against the Mets, he’s 12-5 with a 3.27 ERA.

New York Mets (28-31) at Milwaukee Brewers (34-26) 8:10pm

Chris Capuano (3-6 5.19) vs. Shaun Marcum (6-2 2.78)

TV: ESPN              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Brewers are coming off a 4-game sweep of the Marlins in Florida. They’re playing really well this year and are only 1.5 games behind the Cardinals in the NL Central. And Marcum is pitching really well too. He’s 6-1 in his last seven decisions. His last start was a no-decision loss in Cincinnati when he went 7 IP and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits.

Capuano returns to Milwaukee where he spent the last five years pitching for the Brewers. He has lost his last two decisions and has pitched better than his record. The bullpen hasn’t helped him and when he has pitched well, he hasn’t gotten run support. His record and ERA are atrocious but he hasn’t gotten a lot of help.

Preview: Braves at Mets June 5, 2011

Atlanta Braves (32-27) at New York Mets (27-31) 8:05pm

Tim Hudson (4-4 3.75) vs. R.A. Dickey (2-6 4.39)

TV: ESPN              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Braves play the rubber game of the series on national TV tonight. Hudson has pitched pretty well this season but the Braves are 5-6 in games he started. In his last start in Atlanta he went 6 innings against the Padres and allowed only 1 earned run.

The Mets are 3-8 in Dickey’s starts this season. He pitched through a tough foot injury in his last start against the Pirates and went 7.2 innings allowing 3 runs. He took the loss but got no run support. He’s proving how tough he is pitching through this injury.

Atlanta Braves (32-26) at New York Mets (26-31) 7:10pm

Jair Jurrjens (7-1 1.51) vs. Dillon Gee (5-0 3.83)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need to win tonight and tomorrow to take this home series from the Braves. They’ll go for it behind Gee and the Mets have won all seven games he started this season. He’s been pitching really well, frequently getting to the sixth inning or beyond in his starts.

The Mets won’t have an easy time facing Jurrjens though. He’s been on fire since starting the season on the DL. The Braves are 7-2 in his nine starts this year. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in any start but his BAA is .271 on the road. So there’s hope that the Mets can get to him tonight.

Preview: Braves at Mets June 3, 2011

Atlanta Braves (31-26) at New York Mets (26-30) 7:10pm

Derek Lowe (3-4 4.03) vs. Jon Niese (4-5 3.91)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Braves are in town for three games after losing two of three to the Padres in Atlanta. Lowe’s last two starts haven’t been very good. He’s given up 8 runs while walking 10 in 9.1 innings to the Angels and Reds. He did beat the Mets on April 16 in Atlanta when he went 6 innings and gave up 2 runs.

Nate McLouth and Jason Heyward are on the DL for the Braves.

The Mets have won four of the last five games that Niese started. In two of his last three starts he hasn’t allowed a run. And Niese has been pitching much better at Citi Field this year. In six starts at home he’s 3-2 with a 2.84 ERA. This will be his first start against the Braves this year.

Preview: Pirates at Mets June 2, 2011

Pittsburgh Pirates (26-28) at New York Mets (25-30) 1:10pm

Paul Maholm (2-7 3.18) vs. Mike Pelfrey (3-4 5.00)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need a win just to split the four game series today. They’ll do it behind Pelfrey and, unfortunately, the Mets have lost the last three games he started. Pelfrey only got 6 runs of support in those three games though.

Maholm has been up and down but his last start was fantastic. He threw a complete game 3-hit shutout in Chicago. Prior to that, the Pirates lost five games in a row that he started but he hasn’t gotten much run support either. The Pirates hit about as little as the Mets do so a low scoring affair today wouldn’t be a surprise.

Preview: Pirates at Mets June 1, 2011

Pittsburgh Pirates (25-28) at New York Mets (25-29) 7:10pm

Kevin Correia (7-4 3.44) vs. Chris Capuano (3-5 4.94)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Correia has been having quite a season for the Pirates. He’s been having some great starts but he has been hit hard a couple of times. The Nationals, Dodgers, and Brewers have hit him but the Mets don’t have much offense so they could be in trouble against him.

The Mets are 3-6 when Capuano starts this season. He was 1-3 in May but should have had a better record. In his three losses, the Mets scored 4 runs behind him. Expect the Pirates right handed hitters to tee off on him. Righties are hitting .312 against him this year.
