Livan Hernandez (0-0 0.00) vs. Ricky Nolasco (1-0 7.50)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: Remember that the game won’t be televised until 7:05 pm because of Fox restrictions. In Nolasco’s first start against the Nationals he went 6 innings giving up 5 earned runs but got the win. This is Hernandez’ first start as a Met. At the time of this post we still don’t know who the Mets are leaving off the roster to make room for Hernandez. Everyone assumes it will be Marlon Anderson but we’re waiting for official word.

New York Mets (2-1 Road: 2-1) vs. Florida Marlins (3-0 Home: 3-0) 7:10 pm

John Maine (0-0 0.00) vs. Anibal Sanchez (0-0 0.00)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Marlins are coming off a sweep of the Nationals. I have the feeling that a lot of teams are going to be sweeping the Nationals this season though. Sanchez is a decent pitcher that barely beat out Andrew Miller for the fourth spot in the Marlins rotation. Maine is making his first start since last August when he was diagnosed with a bone spur in his right shoulder. After off-season surgery he returned to have an up-and-down spring training performance. The Mets need Maine to prove that he’s healthy and back to his 2007 form if they expect to be a solid contender in the NL East this season.

Game Preview: Mets At Reds [Game 3] April 9, 2009

Oliver Perez (0-0 0.00) vs. Bronson Arroyo (0-0 0.00)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the sweep today in Cincinnati behind the enigmatic Oliver Perez. Perez got tagged by the Red Sox on Saturday in the Mets final exhibition game. The crowd at Citi Field boo’d him as he came out. Bronson Arroyo is coming back earlier than expected from a bout of carpal tunnel. Micah Owings was originally expected to pitch today’s for the Reds. The Mets will leave town right after the game to head to Miami for a series against the Marlins.

Game Preview: Mets At Reds [Game 2] April 8, 2009

Cincinnati RedsNew York Mets (1-0 Road: 1-0) vs. Cincinnati Reds (0-1 Home: 0-1) 7:10 pm

Mike Pelfrey (0-0 0.00) vs. Edinson Volquez (0-0 0.00)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets face stiff competition in Volquez, who came over from the Texas Rangers last season in the Josh Hamilton trade and quickly established himself as a front-line starter. He was 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA. He had 206 K’s in 196 innings against only 93 walks. The Mets knocked him around in his one start against them last season. He pitched 5 innings and gave up 4 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks.

Pelfrey pitched two games against the Reds last season going 0-1 with a 4.85 ERA. He also had somewhat of a breakout year but not even close to what Volquez did for the Reds.

What to watch: The Mets and Reds get things started for the 2009 season with Johan Santana and Aaron Harang dueling. Harang is looking to rebound from a tough season last year and the Reds look to surprise the National League with their new, younger lineup. The Mets are looking to redeem themselves from two straight late-season failures.

Scott Olsen (8-11 4.23) vs. Oliver Perez (10-7 4.25)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Brewers are tied for the Wild Card on the last day of the season. Both teams will be scoreboard watching as the Brewers and Cubs begin play at 2:05 today. Perez got hit pretty hard in his last start against the Cubs. Hopefully, he was inspired by the effort that Johan Santana put forth yesterday. Perez is going on three days rest today.
