On Deck: June 23- Mariners At Mets

Seattle Mariners (26-49 Road: 11-25) at New York Mets (37-37 Home: 20-14)  7:10pm

Felix Hernandez (6-5 2.87) vs. Johan Santana (7-5 3.04)

TV: ESPN, SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: King Felix is one of the few bright spots on a horrible Mariners team. They’re probably more dysfunctional than the Mets, which is saying something. Theoretically, this should be a premiere pitching match up. It’ll be interesting to see if it works out that way. This is also Jerry Manuel’s first home game as Mets manager. I’ll be curious to see how he’s greeted by the crowd.

On Deck: June 22- Mets At Rockies (Game 3)

New York Mets (36-37 Road: 16-23) at Colorado Rockies (32-43 Home: 20-18) 3:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (3-6 4.62) vs.Greg Reynolds (2-4 5.98)

TV: CW11  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Rockies play the rubber game of the series before the Mets come home to face the Seattle Mariners. Pelfrey has had four pretty good starts in a row now but hasn’t faced the Rockies yet this season. Reynolds has been up and down for the Rockies as is the case for many rookie pitchers. He did get a win against the Mets on May 23 though. Brian Schneider probably won’t play today due to a bruised hand.

On Deck: June 21- Mets At Rockies (Game 2)

New York Mets (36-36 Road: 16-22) at Colorado Rockies (31-43 Home: 19-18) 8:05 pm

Pedro Martinez (2-0 5.31) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (1-7 4.85)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are actually starting to look like a hustling team in the first few games under Jerry Manuel. Pedro Martinez had a very good game in his last start against Texas on June 15 going six innings and giving up one earned run. Pitching in Colorado can be very different than Shea Stadium though.

On Deck: June 20- Mets At Rockies

New York Mets (35-36 Road: 15-22) at Colorado Rockies (31-42 Home: 19-17) 9:05 pm

John Maine (6-5 3.87) vs. Aaron Cook (10-3 3.29)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Jerry Manuel’s first week as Mets manager continues in Colorado for a weekend series. The Mets were there last month and Aaron Cook threw a complete game giving up only one run on May 25. That was when Ryan Church was feeling the effects of his concussion and the Willie Watch was in full swing. Maine has had a couple of below average starts in a row now against Texas on June 15 (6.1 IP 5 ER) and Arizona on June 10 (5 IP 3 ER). Colorado’s a tough place to pitch but the Mets need a better effort from him tonight.

On Deck: June 18- Mets At Angels

New York Mets (34-36 Road: 14-22) at Los Angeles Angels (43-29 Home: 22-17) 10:05pm

Oliver Perez (5-4 4.98) vs. John Garland (6-4 4.13)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Jerry Manuel is still looking for his first win as Mets manager. As usual, you never know what you’ll see from Perez. It will be interesting to see if new pitching coach Dan Warthen has any words of wisdom for Perez before the game tonight.

On Deck: June 17- Mets At Angels

New York Mets (34-35 Road: 14-21) at Los Angeles Angels (42-29 Home: 21-17) 10:05pm

Johan Santana (7-4 2.85) vs. Jon Lackey (3-1 1.83)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: You might have forgotten that there’s a game tonight in all of the news today. The Mets ace, Johan Santana, has a tough match up tonight against Jon Lackey. It’s the first game of the Jerry Manuel regime and I’m anxious to see it. Join me in the Mets Report Game Chat room tonight for the game.

On Deck: June 16- Mets At Angels

New York Mets (33-35 Road: 13-21) at Los Angeles Angels (42-28 Home: 21-16) 10:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (2-6 4.24) vs. Jered Weaver (6-6 4.45)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Mets GM Omar Minaya traveled with the team to LA for the series, not a good sign for Willie Randolph. Randolph’s job is hanging by a thread and the team has played like garbage on the road this season. Mike Pelfrey was tremendous in his last start on June 11 against the D’Backs going eight innings and giving up one run. Jered Weaver also went eight innings giving up one run in his last start on June 10 against the Rays. Weaver has won four of his last five starts as well.
