Phillies Moyer Shuts Down Mets in 6-2 Win

Jamie Moyer was terrific and Pedro Martinez was utterly hittable. That’s the story of the Mets loss in the opener of a split double header.

The Mets managed to put two runs on the board after Moyers left the game. But it was too little too late.

Martinez was hit hard giving up six runs over four innings on seven hits. The bullpen worked the final five innings perfectly but Pedro had already lost the game early on.

The Mets lead in the NL East is down to one game with another one with the Phillies tonight on ESPN.

Pedro Gets Win as Mets Top Marlins 6-2

The Mets got a good start from Pedro and three home runs off Scott Olsen for the win today. The Mets take the series from the fish and are guaranteed to stay in first place for another day.

Pedro went 6 innings giving up two runs, both in the first inning. He seems to give up so many runs in the first inning that I’m surprised we haven’t heard any talk about changing his warm up routine. It’s tough to start every game that Pedro pitches losing after the first inning.

The bullpen was okay today as we collectively held our breath from the seventh inning on. Brian Stokes did the closing today and gave up two hits in the inning. But he was bailed out by Jose Reyes snaring a sharp line drive to end the game.

Nick Evans got his first big league homer, going back to back with David Wright in the third inning. Wright was on the ball today going 3 for 5.

The Phillies are still playing in Chicago now so the lead is 1.5 games at the time of this post.

Mets Lose To Phils 8-7 In 13 Innings

The Mets blew a seven run lead to go to extra innings and lose to the Phillies. Pedro Martinez didn’t have a good game at all giving up five runs over five innings, all in the fourth and fifth innings. Scott Schoenweiss gave up the game in the 13th on a sacrifice fly by Chris Coste to score Shane Victorino, a devastating loss.

The Mets had monster offensive games by Damion Easley (4 hits) and Fernando Tatis (4 RBI’s).

So the Mets lose a five hour game and the NL East lead at the same time. Ugly.
