Darren O’Day has had an interesting week. He was waived by the Mets on Sunday to make room for Nelson Figueroa on the roster. O’Day was then claimed by the Texas Rangers from waivers and had to report to Toronto for the Rangers series with the Blue Jays.

According to MLB.com, O’Day appeared in his firt game wearing the unirform of Kason Gabbard. Apparently, he was home in Florida when he got the call from his agent that he was claimed off waivers. He flew to Toronto to meet up with the team and was told to go directly from the airport to the Rogers Centre where the Rangers were in the middle of a game. Then, he actually got into the game. But because this happened so fast the Rangers didn’t have a uniform ready for him.

Must Read: Milton Bradley On All-Star Game

OAKLAND, CA - MAY 02: Milton Bradley #21 of th...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

I have to admit that I was shocked to see that Texas Rangers outfielder Milton Bradley had authored a column for the esteemed New York Times about his first selection to the All-Star game. Probably not unlike yourself, I had an opinion on Milton Bradley… He’s crazy. He’s always fighting with somebody, etc.

I read this column and it completely changed my mind. It’s so well written  and conveys his feelings so well. I’m thoroughly impressed. Terrific job by the Times to get Bradley to do this.

Check it out here.

What to watch: After rumors spread yesterday that Willie Randolph was on the verge of being replaced, the Mets got a big win. The Rangers are an interesting team with huge hitters and almost no pitching. The Mets offense needs to continue to take advantage of the inadequate Rangers pitching staff.

The pitching challenged Texas Rangers designated Sidney Ponson for assignment this afternoon. Rangers GM Jon Daniels said that the move was due to several off the field problems that have arisen over the past few weeks. According to MLB.com:

“Based on recent events, I don’t think Sidney wants to be here or deserves to be here,” Daniels said.

This season Ponson is 4-1 with a 3.88 ERA. So whatever he did must have been pretty bad. Ponson was signed by the Rangers on March 9, 2008 to a one year minor league contract. The contract was purchased by the Rangers on April 26th. Continue reading “Sidney Ponson DFA’d By Rangers”
