Pelfrey CG Leads Mets Over Astros 9-1
It’s really amazing how Mike Pelfrey has progressed this season, going from 2-6 to start the season to 13-8 now. He threw his second consecutive complete game tonight, the first such occurance since Bret Saberhagen in 1995. He only gave up one run in the ninth inning on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts, another incredible performance.
The big offense came from Carlos Delgado hitting two 3-run homers in the game. Jose Reyes was 3 for 4 including a triple and a double with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s.Ryan Church was 2 for 4 in his third game back from the DL. And Luis Castillo took and o-fer in his return and heard about it from the crowd. Argenis Reyes and Damion Easley have become fan favorites here, so taking away their playing time is going to draw some boos for Castillo.
The Mets hold the NL East lead going into Philly tomorrow night with a great win.

Mets Roster Moves- Maine To DL; Castillo Activated
The Mets decided to go ahead and put John Maine on the disabled list because of the bone spurs in the back of his right shoulder. He hasn’t been the same pitcher over the last month and a half at all. There’s been some talk from Jerry Manuel that Maine’s season may be over, from NY Post:
“I think if we do rest him, I would think it would be a complete shutdown,” Manuel said in today’s Post. “I have to take in everything and make a decision because we want to do what’s best for John Maine, we want to do what’s best for the team. We’re in a pennant race.”
Maine to the disabled list eliminated any questions about who would go off the active roster when Luis Castillo came back. He’s in the starting lineup tonight against the Astros after not playing since July 2 because of a hip flexor injury. Now the Mets have three second basemen on the team and continue their curious roster decisions. For much of the season they’ve been carrying three catchers.
