Game Preview: Rays at Mets [Game 67] June 21, 2009

Rays logoTampa Bay Rays (36-34 Road: 15-22) at New York Mets (34-32 Home: 19-12)   1:10 pm

Jeff Niemann (6-4 4.21) vs. Mike Pelfrey (5-2 4.56)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Rays play the rubber game of the series today before the Cardinals come to town for a four game set. Niemann is a pitcher that appears to be pretty consistent from game to game. He isn’t outstanding but neither is Pelfrey. Niemann is going to pitch a decent game and likely won’t get rocked, especially by the Mets struggling offense.

    1. Bobby Parnell can’t get anyone out right now. And I mean that literally. It didn’t take long for the league to catch up with him and his 98 mph fastball. Baseball history is littered with hard throwing relievers like him that can’t get anyone out. I’m thinking about Ambiorix Burgos (if he could stay out of prison) and Kyle Fanrsworth coming to mind. Parnell shouldn’t be with the major league team until he can figure out some secondary pitches. Nearly every MLB player can hit a 98 mph fastball if they know it’s coming, and that’s what’s happening right now.
