Cardinals 3 – Mets 0 June 23, 2009
The Mets were victimized by a 2-hit shutout thrown by Joel Piniero. His sinker was working against the Mets anemic offense. Although Livan Hernandez pitched very well again, it wasn’t enough to match Piniero. Hernandez went 7 innings giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, after another Daniel Murphy error at first base. Elmer Dessens worked the final two innings without giving up a hit which is a good sign with the Mets overworked bullpen needing some help.

Game Preview: Cardinals at Mets [Game 68] June 22, 2009
St. Louis Cardinals (39-31 Road: 18-15) at New York Mets (34-33 Home: 19-13) 7:10 pm
Todd Wellemeyer (6-6 5.36) vs. Tim Redding (0-2 6.27)
TV: SNY Radio: WFAN
What to watch: First of all, I’ll be at the game tonight so my recap won’t be at my usual time. But for you Twerps, you can follow my on Twitter from the game. The Mets have lost 8 of their last 11 games and look pretty ragged right now. The Mets are also 1-5 in the games that Redding has started. The Cards are on fire winning five of their last six games! What’s worse is that Albert Pujols is on a tear right now. Look at his line: .329 26 HR 68 RBI. Suffice it to say I’m worried about this four game series.

Rays 10 – Mets 6 June 21, 2009
The story of this game was some really bad pitching by the Mets that allowed the Rays to win the series at Citi Field. Mike Pelfrey got bombed for 4 runs on 5 straight hits in the fifth inning. Bobby Parnell got rocked again in the seventh inning, giving up 4 runs without getting an out. B.J. Upton absolutely clubbed a ball into the second deck in left field off Parnell. What a shot that was! Then Sean Green reverted to his bad form by giving up 2 runs on 3 hits in the eighth without getting an out. It was a really ugly pitching performance.
The Mets offense put up 6 runs, which should be enough to win the game. They had 10 hits including a 3-run homer by Brian Schneider in the sixth, his second 3-run homer of the series. David Wright was 3 for 5 and made it through a game without striking out.
The Rays take two of the three games as the Mets welcome the St. Louis Cardinals to Citi Field for four games starting tomorrow night.

Game Preview: Rays at Mets [Game 67] June 21, 2009
Tampa Bay Rays (36-34 Road: 15-22) at New York Mets (34-32 Home: 19-12) 1:10 pm
Jeff Niemann (6-4 4.21) vs. Mike Pelfrey (5-2 4.56)
TV: SNY Radio: WFAN
What to watch: The Mets and Rays play the rubber game of the series today before the Cardinals come to town for a four game set. Niemann is a pitcher that appears to be pretty consistent from game to game. He isn’t outstanding but neither is Pelfrey. Niemann is going to pitch a decent game and likely won’t get rocked, especially by the Mets struggling offense.
