Mets Home Stand Preview: June 22-27, 2010

April 27 2010: Fans cheer for their team during game 2 of a double header MLB game between the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. The Mets beat the Dodgers 10-5.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsAfter the longest (and ironically most successful) road trip of the season, the Mets are returning to the friendly confines of Citi Field.

Unfortunately, the best two teams in the AL Central will be awaiting them.

Tuesday, June 22nd: Tigers (Verlander) vs. Mets (Niese) 7:10 PM
Wednesday, June 23rd: Tigers (Bonderman) vs. Mets (Dickey) 7:10 PM ESPN
Thursday, June 24th: Tigers (Galarraga) vs. Mets (Takahashi) 7:10 PM MLB Network
Friday, June 25th: Twins (Slowey) vs. Mets (Pelfrey) 7:10 PM
Saturday, June 26th: Twins (Pavano) vs. Mets (Santana) 1:10 PM
Sunday, June 27th: Twins (Baker) vs. Mets (Niese) 1:10 PM

The 2nd place Tigers are led offensively by Miguel Cabrera, who leads the majors in home runs (19) and runs batted in (60). Detroit is 8-2 in their past ten games, so the Mets would be wise to not overlook this Tigers’ team which has been hot lately.

One word I would use for this Detroit team: pesky. They have the sixth highest team batting average in the bigs, and the eighth http://www.mindanews.com/buy-effexor/ most hits. In every other offensive category (and pitching, for that matter) they’re a middle-of-the-road team. If the Mets can keep the Tigers off the bases, they’ll have success.

The Mets will take on the AL Central leading Minnesota Twins, who have allowed the 2nd least amount of runs in the American League. Luckily, the Mets avoid Liriano in this series. Justin Morneau is the big bopper for the Twinkies, hitting .340 with 15 HR, 47 RBI, and 45 runs scored to lead the Twins offensively.

My Predicted Mets Home Stand Record: I understand the Mets are 24-10 at home, but the Tigers and Twins are not pushover teams… at all. The Twins have been outstanding all year, and the Tigers are hot right now. With that considered, the Mets shouldn’t be discouraged if they walk out of Citi Field Sunday evening off a 3-3 home stand. So 3-3 it is.
