Atlanta Braves (85-64) at New York Mets (74-75)  1:10pm

Derek Lowe (13-12 4.22) vs R.A. Dickey (11-6 2.80)

TV: WPIX  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to avoid the embarrassing home sweep to the Braves this afternoon behind Dickey. He’s been tremendous this season and won his last two starts only allowing 3 runs over 15 innings. Lowe has also been pitching well winning his last two starts. He allowed only 1 run over 14 innings during that period.

Roy Oswalt (11-13 3.09) vs Jon Niese (9-7 3.85)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Phils play the rubber game of the series this afternoon. It’s the first time the Mets will face Oswalt since he got traded to Philly. The Phils have won seven straight games that he started. Niese seems to have hit the wall over his last three starts. Over that span he’s allowed 15 run in 16.1 innings.

Kyle Kendrick (9-8 4.89) vs Mike Pelfrey (13-9 3.96)

TV: FOX  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to recover from last night’s loss to take the last two games of this home series. Kendrick has had four bad starts in a row, three resulted in losses for him. So this could be the Mets best chance. Pelfrey hasn’t been much better though. He’s given up 10 runs in his last two starts over 8.2 innings.

Preview: Mets at Nationals September 8, 2010

New York Mets (68-71)  at Washington Nationals (60-79) 12:35pm

R.A. Dickey (9-6 2.91) vs Livan Hernandez (9-10 3.81)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Nats play the rubber game of the series this afternoon. Dickey had a terrible game in Chicago in his last start allowing 7 runs in 6 innings. In two games against the Nats this year he has no decisions and a 1.38 ERA in 13 innings. Hernandez has been bombed in his last three starts. Over that span he’s allowed 20 runs in 15 innings. It looks like a late season fade for the old man.

Preview: Mets at Nationals September 6, 2010

New York Mets (67-70)  at Washington Nationals (59-78) 1:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (13-8 3.72) vs Jordan Zimmermann (0-0 4.50)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Nationals just won a series in Pittsburgh but they’re still in last place and 8 games behind the Mets in the standings. Zimmermann is coming back from Tommy John surgery and has only two starts this year. His last start was a great one though only allowing 1 hit over 6 shutout innings against the Marlins. He also had 9 strikeouts and no walks. Pelfrey was hit hard by the Braves in his last start, a loss in Atlanta. He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits over 5 innings.

Preview: Mets at Cubs September 5, 2010

New York Mets (66-70)  at Chicago Cubs (59-77) 2:20 pm

Jon Niese (8-7 3.70) vs Ryan Dempster (12-9 3.71)

TV: WPIX  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: For the second straight series the Mets are trying to avoid a sweep by winning the final game. Niese has been awful in his last two starts allowing 15 runs (10 earned) over 10.1 innings. Fortunately, Dempster was equally bad in his last start against the Pirates giving up 7 runs over 3 innings.

Preview: Mets at Cubs September 4, 2010

New York Mets (66-68)  at Chicago Cubs (57-77) 1:05 pm

Jenrry Mejia (0-2 3.25) vs Carlos Zambrano (6-6 4.36)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Mejia makes his first Major League start this afternoon after being demoted to the minors in June. He had mixed results as a reliever and I’m still not sure that he projects as a successful starter. Zambrano has pitched really well since he returned from his suspension at the end of July. He’s only allowed 2 runs in his last 18.2 innings over three starts.
