Atlanta Braves (51-35) at New York Mets (47-39) 4:10 pm

Tim Hudson (8-4 2.44) vs Mike Pelfrey (10-3 3.39)

TV: FOX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need to take both games this weekend to win the series after losing the opener last night. The Braves have lost four of the last six games that Hudson started but he’s been pitching really well. He hasn’t pitched less than 7 innings in a starts since June 1. Pelfrey got crushed by the Reds in his last start for 7 runs over 4.2 innings. He really hasn’t looked great since his complete game win over the Padres on June 8.

Tommy Hanson (8-5 4.19) vs R.A. Dickey (6-1 2.62)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Braves start up a three game series tonight, the last before the break. The Braves just took 2 of 3 games in Philly. Hanson has lost 2 of his last 3 starts but his last start against the Marlins was a good one. He went 6.2 IP allowing no earned runs. Dickey threw 7 shutout innings in his last start in Washington.

Bronson Arroyo (8-4 4.25) vs Jon Niese (6-2 3.62)

TV: SNY, ESPN   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Reds play the rubber game of the series tonight at Citi Field. Arroyo has generally been pitching well since the beginning of June. The Reds have won three of the last four games he started. In his last start against the Cubs he threw 6 shutout innings. The Mets have won six straight games that Niese started. In his last two starts he’s given up only 1 run over 13 innings.

Preview: Reds at Mets July 6, 2010

Cincinnati Reds (48-36) at New York Mets (45-37) 7:10 pm

Undecided vs Johan Santana (5-5 3.41)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need to take the tonight’s game and tomorrow’s to win the series at home after losing the opener. Santana was excellent in his last start in Washington going 7 IP and allowing 1 run. He had four poor starts prior to that. Hopefully, he’s on the right track permanently. The Reds haven’t announced their starter yet after Aaron Harang couldn’t go yesterday and Travis Wood filled in for him.

Preview: Reds at Mets July 5, 2010

Cincinnati Reds (47-36) at New York Mets (45-36) 7:10 pm

Mike Pelfrey (10-2 2.93) vs Aaron Harang (6-7 5.02)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The first place Reds come to town for a three game series after winning three of four games in Chicago. Harang has pitched welll in his last three starts allowing 7 runs over 19.1 IP. The Reds have won two of those starts. Pelfrey is fresh off an All-Star snub. He’s been showing some wear in his last four starts but the Mets have won three of them due to good run support. Hopefully, he’ll come out with a chip on his shoulder tonight and kick it back into gear.

Preview: Mets at Nationals July 4, 2010

New York Mets (45-36) at Washington Nationals (36-46) 1:35 pm

Hisanori Takahashi (6-3 4.24) vs Craig Stammen (2-2 5.13)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need this one to even the series at 2-2 before they come home to face the Reds this week. Takahashi was pathetic in his last start against the Marlins giving up 6 runs over 5.2 innings. I have no confidence in him as a starter. The Nats have lost three of the last four games that Stammen started. But his last two starts against the Braves and Reds were excellent. During those starts, he only gave up 3 runs over 14 innings.
