Game Preview: Reds at Mets [Game 85] July 10, 2009

RedsCincinnati Reds (41-43 Road: 21-23) at New York Mets (40-44 Home: 23-19)  7:10 pm

Bronson Arroyo (8-8 5.85) vs. Fernando Nieve (3-2 2.73)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Reds come to town having lost four of their last five games. Arroyo has had three terrible starts in a row and the Reds have lost six of the last seven that he started. Nieve has lost his last two starts after a remarkable start with the Mets. Although the Mets are really hurting right now, the Reds may be the cure to their ills.

dodgers logoLos Angeles Dodgers (53-31 Road: 25-18) at New York Mets (40-43 Home: 23-18)  7:10 pm

Randy Wolf (3-3 3.49) vs. Livan Hernandez (5-4 4.56)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Dodgers play the rubber game of the series tonight. In Wolf’s last five starts, he’s only allowed more than 2 runs once. Hernandez got bombed in his last start in Philly for 7 runs in 3 innings. The Mets offense finally woke up last night. We’ll see if they can do it again tonight.

Game Preview: Dodgers at Mets [Game 83] July 8, 2009

dodgers logoLos Angeles Dodgers (53-30 Road: 25-17) at New York Mets (39-43 Home: 22-18)  7:10 pm

Hiroki Kuroda (3-4 3.91) vs. Oliver Perez (1-2 9.97)

TV: SNY, ESPN  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to avoid their fifth consecutive loss tonight. Perez is back from the DL/poor performance. He pitched okay in the minors in his rehab games. But who knows what to expect from him, really? The Dodgers are 4-4 in Kuroda’s start this year. He’s only pitched more than 6 innings twice in eight starts. Expect to be into the Dodgers bullpen during this one if the Mets can generate any offense for a change.

Game Preview: Dodgers at Mets [Game 82] July 7, 2009

dodgers logoLos Angeles Dodgers (52-30 Road: 24-17) at New York Mets (39-42 Home: 22-17)  7:10 pm

Clayton Kershaw (5-5 3.49) vs. Mike Pelfrey (6-3 4.26)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are licking their wounds after taking a beating in Philly over the weekend. Of course, the Dodgers and the best record in MLB come to town to start a three game series. The Dodgers have won the last four games the Kershaw started. Pelfrey pitched a great game, his best start of the season, in his last game in Milwaukee. He’ll need to keep that going if the depleted Mets expect to beat the Dodgers tonight. It’ll be interesting to see how the Citi Field crowd greets Manny Ramirez. Don’t be too hard on him if you’re at the game, he might get into a steroid rage.

Game Preview: Mets at Phillies [Game 81] July 5, 2009

phillies logoNew York Mets (39-41 Road: 17-24) at Philadelphia Phillies (41-37 Home: 15-22) 1:35 pm

Johan Santana (9-6 3.34) vs. Joe Blanton (4-4 5.08)

TV: WPIX  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need this one to avoid the sweep in Philly before coming home to face the Dodgers. Santana has lost three of his last four decisions, and today would be an excellent opportunity for him to turn things around. Blanton hasn’t pitched that badly for the Phils but he hasn’t won a game since June 1. The Phillies have lost the five games that Blanton started. Hopefully, this lines up as a win for the Mets.

Game Preview: Mets at Phillies [Game 80] July 4, 2009

phillies logoNew York Mets (39-40 Road: 17-23) at Philadelphia Phillies (40-37 Home: 14-22) 4:10 pm

Fernando Nieve (3-1 2.25) vs. Jamie Moyer (6-6 6.05)

TV: FOX  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: Nieve gets another chance in the rotation because of injuries. But he got lit up by the Brewers for 11 hits and 3 runs in 3.1 innings in his last start. He may not get another start if he gets bombed like that again today on national TV. Moyer has been pitching a little better lately after an awful start to the season. The Phillies have won three of the last four games that Moyer started.

Livan Hernandez (5-3 4.04) vs. Rodrigo Lopez (0-0 0.00)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets take their two game winning streak into Philly tonight. The Phils just got swept in Atlanta and have lost six of their last eight games. Hernandez hasn’t pitched badly but the Mets have lost the last four games that he started. Lopez is making his season debut for the Phils tonight. He made 14 starts for Colorado last year and was 5-4 with a 4.42 ERA.
