New York Mets Ike Davis hits a single at Citi Field in New York

He went 7 innings only giving up 1 run in the seventh. He was in complete control throughout the game dropping his curveball in for strikes at will. Jenrry Mejia and Fernando Nieve finished off the final two innings without a serious threat by the Marlins.

The Mets offense was solid with 10 hits and 2 walks against the Marlins. Ike Davis was right on the ball today going 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored. David Wright was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s including his 10th home run of the season which equals his total from last season.

Mets’ Jon Niese Makes Rehab Start Monday

According to the Buffalo News, Jon Niese will be making an injury rehab start tomorrow afternoon for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons in their series opener against the Syracuse Chiefs. Niese has been on the DL since May 17 with a hamstring strain.

Niese made 16 starts for Buffalo last year with a 3.82 ERA. So far for the Mets this season he’s 1-2 with a 4.79 ERA in eight starts.

Niese’s return will continue to solidify the rotation for the Mets. Fernando Nieve will go back to the bullpen and the Niese will slot back in. The additions of R.A. Dickey and Hisanori Takahashi have made a big difference in the consistency of the Mets over the past two weeks.

Brewers 8 – Mets 6 May 29, 2010

Mets Nieve reacts after giving up a two out solo home run to Brewers Kottaras in a MLB National League game in Milwaukee

They started the inning looking good with a run scoring double by Jason Bay only to give it up an more at the hands of Fernando Nieve. Nieve was dreadful in his first start of the season giving up a grand slam to Cory Hart in the first and another run in the second before he hit the showers.

Oliver Perez made an appearance to give up 3 more runs over 2 IP. That raises his season WHIP to 1.97 which seems almost impossibly bad. Hart touched Perez up for his second homer of the game and third in two days as well.

The Mets did have some offense in the game putting up 6 runs on 9 hits and 4 walks. But they struck out 12 times in the game. Angel Pagan was the biggest culprit with 3. Ike Davis was 1 for 5 with a 3-run homer (5th of the season).

The Mets have lost the series in Milwaukee and need to salvage tomorrow’s game to avoid the sweep.

What to watch: The Mets need to take the next two games in Milwaukee to take the series from the worst home team in baseball. Nieve makes his first start of the year coming out of the bullpen. He’s already appeared in 27 of the Mets 49 games this season. Parra has only made one start this season in his 18 appearances, so this one is going to be the battle of the relievers. Expect both bullpens to be working early and often tonight.

Marlins 2 – Mets 1 May 13, 2010

http://cdn.pis.picapp.com/IamProd/PicAppPIS/JavaScript/PisV4.jsThe Mets got a great start from Johan Santana. He locked up with Josh Johnson in an excellent pitchers dual. The aces were as good as advertised tonight. And it was a nice comeback from a couple of rough starts for Santana. He went 7 IP only giving up 1 run, an unearned run on his own throwing error.

As expected, the Mets didn’t do much hitting against Johnson. They only had 4 hits in the game and Jerry Manuel promised changes to the lineup in the coming days. The only run they scored was on a Rod Barajas single in the second inning scoring Jason Bay.

The game was lost in the bottom of the ninth when Fernando Nieve threw a wild pitch that allowed Cody Ross to score from third. Dan Uggla was pinch hitting at the plate and Nieve uncorked a wild breaking ball inside and in the dirt that Barajas couldn’t handle. It’s an ugly way to lose a game and the Mets fourth loss in their last five games.

Mets 5 – Giants 4 May 8, 2010

The Mets won their second game in a row on a walk-off home run, this time by Henry Blanco in 11 innings. It’s the ninth straight home win for the Mets and takes the series from the Giants.

Johan Santana recovered nicely from his horrible start in Philly. He went 7.2 IP giving up 4 ER. But it should have been 3. Fernando Nieve and Pedro Feliciano relieved Santana in the eighth and both gave up hits without getting an out.

K-Rod pitched pretty well in the ninth and tenth innings. He did give up 2 walks and has a 1.15 WHIP, which is a little higher than you’d like to see from a top of the line closer.

The Mets had 7 hits in the game and Blanco was 3 for 5 in the game including the game winner in the eleventh. Clearly, he was the offensive hero of the game.

Mets 4 – Dodgers 1 Apirl 27, 2010 Game 1

He didn’t have his best stuff and his velocity was down today. The fastball was in the upper 80’s. But he got through six innings giving up 4 hits and 3 walks and getting the win.

Fernando Nieve and Pedro Feliciano tacked on three more shutout innings after Santana left the game.

The Mets didn’t have a ton of offense, which has been the case often lately. But they had enough to get the win. They had only 8 hits as a team and left 13 runners on base. Luis Castillo had 2 RBI single in the 7th inning and Jason Bay hit his first homer of the year in the second inning.
