Game Preview: Mets at Pirates [Game 78] July 2, 2009

What to watch: The Mets have a one-game stop in Pittsburgh for a make up game before they head to Philly. The Pirates have won two of their last three series’, so don’t take them too lightly. Maholm is really inconsistent and got ripped by the Mets for 7 runs in 5 innings on May 9 at Citi Field. The Mets have lost three of the last four games that Redding started. With Oliver Perez and John Maine coming off the disabled list this month likely, Redding needs to pick up his game to stay in the rotation.

Game Preview: Mets at Brewers [Game 77] July 1, 2009

Milwaukee_BrewersNew York Mets (37-39 Road: 15-22) at Milwaukee Brewers (42-35 Home: 22-17) 2:05 pm

Mike Pelfrey (5-3 4.67) vs. Yovani Gallardo (8-4 2.86)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to avoid their second consecutive series sweep today. Jerry Manuel required that all players take the team bus from the hotel to Miller Park. No cabs or limos today in Milwaukee. We’ll see if it works against the excellent ace of Milwaukee’s rotation. Gallardo has really only been lit up once this season, and that was on May 20. So Pelfrey better be prepared to hold the Brewers down today. And by the way, the Mets will be doing this without David Wright and Gary Sheffield in the lineup.

What to watch: Burns has started one game for the Brewers and got bombed by the Twins. This is the game the Mets need to win in this series. Santana’s last two starts have been very good, so there are no excuses not to win this one.

Game Preview: Mets at Brewers [Game 75] June 29, 2009

What to watch: The Mets limp into Milwaukee after getting swept at home by the Yankees. The Brewers are playing decent baseball having gone 3-3 in their last two series against the Twins and Giants. Former Met Looper hasn’t been pitching all that well recently though. The Brewers have lost three of the last four games that he started. I keep waiting for Nieve to fall apart but it hasn’t happened. I’ll be keeping my finger crossed tonight that he can keep his hot streak going for another start.

Game Preview: Yankees at Mets [Game 74] June 28, 2009

What to watch: The Mets try to avoid the home sweep tonight on national TV. Wang has been awful this season with the Yankees losing eight of the ten games that he started. Hernandez has been much better than expected, but I keep waiting for him to return to the form that got him released last season by Minnesota.

What to watch: The Yankees have lost two of the last three games that Burnett started. Redding is pitching to keep his spot in the rotation with Oliver Perez and John Maine rehabbing from injuries.

Game Preview: Yankees at Mets [Game 72] June 26, 2009

CC Sabathia (69-4 3.71) vs. Mike Pelfrey (5-2 4.74)

TV: SNY, WWOR  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Yankees come to Citi Field having won four of their last six games against the Marlins and Braves. Sabathia left his last start in Florida after 1.1 innings after feeling a bicep problem. But the Yanks are running him out there again tonight. We’ll see if that’s a wise decision. Pelfrey’s been up and down, but the bottom line is that the Mets have lost three of the last four games that Pelfrey started. He hasn’t shown the kind of growth that we would have expected from him. It’s time for him to kick it up a notch. Gary Sheffield should be available to play the field tonight after having a cortisone shot in his knee on Wednesday.
