Game Preview: Mets at Nationals [Game 55] June 7, 2009

washington-nationals-logo2New York Mets (29-25 Road: 12-16) at Washington Nationals (15-39 Home: 9-19) 1:35 pm

Livan Hernandez (4-1 4.33) vs. Craig Stammen (0-1 5.71)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Nationals play the rubber game of the series this afternoon. Hernandez has been better than I thought he would be, he hasn’t lost a game since April 23, But the Mets have lost 2 of the last 3 games that he’s started. Stammen is another one of the good looking young pitchers that the Nats are running out there. The Nats have won 2 of his 3 last starts. Expect to see Ryan Church in the lineup today back from the disabled list.

Pre-Game: Mets at Nationals [Game 54] June 6, 2009

washington-nationals-logo1New York Mets (29-24 Road: 12-15) at Washington Nationals (14-39 Home: 8-19) 7:05 pm

John Maine (5-3 3.75) vs. John Lannan (2-5 4.21)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: Maine has won his last two starts and has pitched very well. The Mets will need that with all of the players they have out of the lineup. Sheffield will be back in the outfield even with his bad leg. Lannan has lost his last two starts and really hasn’t pitched very well. Let’s hope that trend continues.

Pre-Game: Mets at Nationals [Game 53] June 5, 2009

washington-nationals-logoNew York Mets (28-24 Road: 11-15) at Washington Nationals (14-38 Home: 8-18) 7:05 pm

Tim Redding (0-2 9.20) vs. Shairon Martis (5-1 5.62)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets get to Washington limping after a sweep in Pittsburgh. But the Nationals have lost 7 of their last 8 games, nothing unusual for them. Redding has been horrible in his last two starts, getting rocked for at least six runs in each. Martis has been bad in his last three starts, getting hit for at least five runs in each. This could be an offensive explosion tonight for both teams.

Pre-Game: Mets at Pirates [Game 52] June 4, 2009

New York Mets (28-23 Road: 11-14) at Pittsburgh Pirates (24-28 Home: 14-11) 12:35 pm

Mike Pelfrey (4-1 3.88) vs. Ross Ohlendorf (5-5 4.45)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to salvage something out of this rain-shortened series in Pittsburgh behind Pelfrey. He’s pitched five good starts in a row and should be able to keep it going against a weak Pirates lineup. Their lineup is even weaker after trading OF Nate McClouth to the Braves yesterday. Ohlendorf has lost his last two starts and given up at least four runs in his last three starts. The word is that Carlos Beltran is finally ready to play.

We’ll see if Carlos Beltran can finally get back into the lineup after being out since Saturday with the flu.

Game Preview: Marlins at Mets [Game 49] May 31, 2009

marlins-logo2Florida Marlins (23-27 Road: 14-13) at New York Mets (27-21 Home: 16-9) 1:10 pm

Chris Volstad (4-3 3.69) vs.  John Maine  (4-3 4.18)

TV: WPIX  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Marlins play the rubber of the series today before the Mets head out of town to Pittsburgh. Volstad has been very consistent this season, he never gets completely bombed in a game. Maine on the other hand has had his up’s and down’s over the past season and a half. He really hasn’t been as consistent as I would have expected of him. Good news for the fans going out to the game today is that you’ll probably see a much better lineup from the Mets than we got yesterday. Expect David Wright back in there and we’ll find out if Carlos Beltran has recovered from the stomach virus that took him out of yesterday’s game.

Game Preview: Marlins at Mets [Game 48] May 30, 2009

marlins-logo1Florida Marlins (22-27 Road: 13-13) at New York Mets (27-20 Home: 16-8) 1:10 pm

Josh Johnson (3-1 2.67) vs. Tim Redding (0-1 6.75)

TV: SNY  RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for their fifth straight win today with a lineup filled with backup players. Fernando Tatis is starting at third for David Wright and batting cleanup. That’s too bad for everyone going to the game today. Johnson is one of the best pitchers in baseball right now. He hasn’t had a really bad game since April 18.
