Game Preview: Nationals at Mets [Game 46] May 27, 2009

washington-nationals-logo2Washington Nationals (13-32 Road: 6-16) at New York Mets (25-20 Home: 14-8) 7:10 pm

Jordan Zimmermann (2-1 5.71) vs. Johan Santana (6-2 1.50)

TV: SNY  RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the sweep tonight behind ace Santana. He’s been astounding this season and expect him to put the hammer down on a poor Nationals team. Zimmermann is a good looking young pitcher that appears to have a bright future. He beat the Mets at Citi Field on April 26. Since then he hasn’t been that great but don’t discount him, he’s got some talent.

Craig Stammen (0-0 5.68) vs. Livan Hernandez (3-1 4.93)

TV: SNY  RadioWFAN

What to watch: Stammen has made one start against the Pirates this season and went 6.1 innings giving up 4 runs. Hernandez has been up and down but was excellent in his last start in LA. Fernando Martinez makes his season debut for the Mets tonight as well.

Game Preview: Nationals at Mets [Game 44] May 25, 2009

washington-nationals-logoWashington Nationals (13-30 Road: 6-14) at New York Mets (23-20 Home: 12-8) 7:10 pm

John Lannan (2-3 3.63) vs. John Maine (3-3 4.53)

TV: SNY  RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Nationals come to town after losing 10 of their last 12 games. Ugly. Lannan has pitched really well though. He’s only been rocked twice in his nine starts. Maine is coming off a loss in his last start in LA but had been pitching well prior to that. The Mets could really use some healthy players, especially Jose Reyes and Ryan Church as quickly as possible.

Game Preview: Mets at Red Sox [Game 43] May 24, 2009

red_sox_logo2New York Mets (23-19 Road: 11-11) at Boston Red Sox (25-18 Home: 16-6) 1:35 pm

Tim Reddding (0-0 3.00) vs. Tim Wakefield (5-2 3.59)

TV: WPIX  RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the road sweep in Boston today. They had a chance in San Francisco but couldn’t finish off the last game. Redding was solid in his first start off the disabled list against the Dodgers going 6 innings and giving up 2 runs in a loss. Wakefield is having a good season for the Sox but he has been hit hard in a couple of games. It all depends on how the knuckle ball is working for him. Hopefully, not very well today.

Game Preview: Mets at Red Sox [Game 42] May 23, 2009

red_sox_logoNew York Mets (22-19 Road: 10-11) at Boston Red Sox (25-17 Home: 16-5) 7:10 pm

Mike Pelfrey (4-1 4.61) vs. Josh Beckett (4-2 5.85)

TV: SNY  RadioWFAN

What to watch: Pelfrey’s last start was very forgettable with what he described as “the yips”. Whatever the yips are caused Pelfrey to balk three times on his way to a loss in San Francisco. Beckett has generally pitched pretty well this season. He got bombed in a couple of starts that threw his ERA out of whack but he can be very tough when he’s on.

Game Preview: Mets at Red Sox [Game 41] May 22, 2009

red_sox_logoNew York Mets (21-19 Road: 9-11) at Boston Red Sox (25-16 Home: 16-4) 7:10 pm

Johan Santana (5-2 1.36) vs. Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-1 12.79)

TV: SNY  RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Red Sox come into the series having swept the hot Blue Jays at home. The Mets have lost four in a row and just got swept in LA. Matsuzaka is just coming off the DL after suffering from a stiff shoulder (and bad pitching). Santana wasn’t his usual self against the Giants in his last start but still got the win.

Game Preview: Mets at Dodgers [Game 40] May 20, 2009

dodgers-logoNew York Mets (21-18 Road: 9-10) at Los Angeles Dodgers (28-13 Home: 16-3) 10:10 pm

Livan Hernandez (3-1 5.59) vs. Jeff Weaver (2-1 3.38)

TV: SNY  RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to avoid a sweep in their last game on the west coast before a day off then a series in Boston. Hernandez wasn’t very good in his last start against the Giants giving up 5 runs in 5 innings. He’ll need to do better than that against the Dodgers. Weaver has been working out of the bullpen and making a few starts this season. This is the type of pitcher that the Mets really need to jump on early.
