On Deck- August 18- Mets at Pirates [Game 4]

New York Mets (68-56 Road: 32-33) at Pittsburgh Pirates (55-69 Home: 33-31) 12:35pm

John Maine (10-7 3.97) vs. Paul Maholm (8-7 3.69)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the sweep and their seventh consecutive win today. Maine hasn’t lost a game in a month and hopes to continue the Mets incredible stretch of outstanding starting pitching. Maholm has pitched really well this season for a bad Pirates team so this probably won’t be a cake walk.

On Deck- August 17- Mets at Pirates [Game 3]

New York Mets (67-56 Road: 31-33) at Pittsburgh Pirates (55-68 Home: 33-30) 1:35pm

Johan Santana (10-7 2.89) vs. Jeff Karstens (2-1 1.23)

TV: CW11  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for their sixth win in a row behind their ace Santana. Santana hasn’t lost a game since June 28th. Karstens has pitched extremely well since coming over from the Yankees in the Nady deal. He pitched a complete game two-hit shutout in Arizona on August 6th.

On Deck- August 16- Mets at Pirates [Game 2]

New York Mets (66-56 Road: 30-33) at Pittsburgh Pirates (55-67 Home: 33-29) 7:05pm

Pedro Martinez (3-3 5.37) vs. Zach Duke (4-10 5.10)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Both starting pitchers have struggled this season. But Pedro pitched a nice game against the Pirates in his last start on Monday at Shea. Look for the Mets to continue their incredible defense they displayed last night. There were defensive highlights happening all over the field. It was great to see that kind of effort against the Pirates, one of the NL’s weak sisters.

On Deck- August 15- Mets at Pirates [Game 1]

New York Mets (65-56 Road: 29-33) at Pittsburgh Pirates (55-66 Home: 33-28) 7:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (10-8 4.11) vs. Jason Davis (1-1 1.38)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets get to Pittsburgh riding a three game winning streak. Pelfrey hasn’t pitched well in 2 of his last 3 starts, both against the Marlins. I’d look for him to have a nice bounce back game against the Pirates.

On Deck- August 14- Mets at Nationals [Game 3]

New York Mets (64-56 Road: 28-33) at Washington Nationals (44-77 Home: 23-35) 7:10pm

Oliver Perez (8-7 3.90) vs. Colin Balester (2-4 4.66)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the sweep against the lowly Nationals. Perez has been astounding since working under the tutelage of pitching coach Dan Warthen. Balester has been decent for a rookie playing for a bad team. Let’s get the sweep and get out of town.

On Deck- August 13- Mets at Nats [Game 2]

New York Mets (63-56 Road: 27-33) at Washington Nationals (44-76 Home: 23-34) 7:10pm

John Maine (9-7 4.13) vs. Jason Bergmann (2-8 4.13)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets continue to try to patch together some wins with their bullpen in shambles. This might be Maine’s last start before going to the bullpen. The Mets really need to do some damage offensively against the struggling Nats so there isn’t so much pressure on the bullpen at the end of the game.

On Deck- August 12- Mets at Nationals [Game 1]

New York Mets (62-55 Home: 36-22) at Washington Nationals (44-75 Home: 23-33) 7:10pm

Johan Santana (9-7 2.85) vs. Odalis Perez (5-8 4.10)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Honestly, I don’t know how the Mets can recover from their devastating loss yesterday. I guess playing the worst team in baseball for three games could help. I’ve written this before over the last few weeks but I’ll say it again, the Mets need Santana to go nine innings himself if they expect to win this one. You can’t trust anyone in the bullpen right now.
