On Deck: May 31- Dodgers At Mets

Los Angeles Dodgers (27-27) at New York Mets (26-27)  3:55pm

Chad Billingsley (4-6) vs. Mike Pelfrey (2-6)

TV: Fox            Radio: WFAN

What to watch: With Pedro Martinez coming back to the roster on Tuesday, some decisions will have to be made regarding the starting pitching. Mike Pelfrey hasn’t pitched well at all since his no-hit bid two weeks ago. That’s starting to look more like a fluke performance than a view of what he could be in the future. Pelfrey needs to step up his game today if he wants to avoid a trip back to the minors. Frankly, his poor performances have been hurting the team.

On Deck: May 30- Dodgers At Mets

Los Angeles Dodgers (26-27) at New York Mets (26-26) 7:10pm

Clayton Kershaw (0-0) vs. John Maine (5-4)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Kershaw is a 20 year old lefty with a mid-90’s fastball and a nasty curveball. I sure hope Delgado is on the bench again tonight. He has no chance of hitting this guy. Maine went a solid six innings in his last start in Colorado despite taking the loss. This game looks like a pitching duel to me.

On Deck: May 29 Dodgers-Mets

Los Angeles Dodgers (26-26) at New York Mets (25-26) 7:10pm

Brad Penny (5-5 5.32) vs. Claudio Vargas (1-2 3.93)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets, winners of two in a row, suddenly appear to be alive after two months of slumber. The second place Dodgers and Joe Torre are in town for four games. The Mets usually have Brad Penny’s number, but shouldn’t take him for granted. He’s still a big right handed power arm. Claudio Vargas is auditioning to keep his job when Pedro gets back next week. We’ll see if Willie keeps the same or similar alternate lineup that he’s won with the last two nights.

On Deck: May 28 Marlins- Mets

Florida Marlins (30-21) at New York Mets (24-26) 7:10pm

Scott Olsen (4-2) vs. Oliver Perez (4-3)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets play the rubber game of the series tonight against the Marlins. Both Olsen and Perez had terrible starts in their last time out; Olsen in San Francisco and Perez in Colorado. You never know what kind of start it’ll be from Perez. Carlos Delgado may ride the bench again tonight as well.

On Deck: May 26- Marlins At Mets

Florida Marlins (29-20) at New York Mets (23-25) 7:10pm

Ricky Nolasco (3-3 4.62) vs. Mike Pelfrey (2-5 5.00)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The big question is: who will be managing the Mets tonight? More news on that to come today. The first place Marlins come to town to take on the fourth place Mets. That sounds horrible! The Mets have been sloppy and uninspired over the past two weeks. I have a feeling that they’re going to hear some boos from the home crowd tonight.

On Deck: May 25- Mets At Rockies

New York Mets (23-24) at Colorado Rockies (19-30)  3:05pm

John Maine (5-3) vs. Aaron Cook (6-3)

TV: CW11 Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets have a chance to win the rubber game of the series in Colorado today. Maine’s last start on Tuesday was forgettable. Otherwise, he’s had a good season. I think that we’d all like to see Nick Evans in the lineup again today after his monster Major League debut yesterday. Willie Randolph would feel much better about his meeting with the Wilpons tomorrow if he went in off winning the road series in Colorado.

On Deck: May 24- Mets At Rockies

New York Met (22-24) at Colorado Rockies (19-29) 3:55pm

Claudio Vargas (0-2) vs. Jeff Francis (1-4)

TV: Fox Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets have turned into a train wreck on this road trip, finding every possible way to lose. Vargas pitches on short rest this afternoon. His last start in Atlanta was pretty bad going five innings and giving up four runs. Jeff Francis has been pretty bad this season as well. He’s been the Rockies ace but hasn’t had a good season. After losing the first game of the series last night, the Mets need to take the next two games if there’s any chance of staving off the vultures over Willie Randolph’s career with the Mets.
