Preview: A’s at Mets June 21, 2011

Oakland A’s (33-40) at New York Mets (35-37) 7:10pm

Josh Outman (2-1 3.14) vs. Dillon Gee (7-0 2.86)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The struggling A’s are in town for three games. They’re in last place in the AL West but, surprisingly, they’ve won five straight games including sweeping the Giants at home before coming to New York. Outman is a lefty who has made a few starts over the last few years but never getting any consistent time in the big leagues. He’s made five starts this year and four of them were pretty good.

Gee looks to continue his mind boggling run tonight in his eleventh start of the season. The Mets still haven’t lost a game that he started this season. In three starts this month he’s only allowed 1 run. He’s been extraordinary.

Preview: Mets at Braves June 15, 2011

New York Mets (33-34) at Atlanta Braves (38-30) 7:10pm

Dillon Gee (7-0 3.05) vs. Tim Hudson (5-5 4.06)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets can win the series in Atlanta tonight if they take this game. You would have to think they have a great chance to do it behind Gee. The Mets are 9-0 in Gee’s starts this year. He’s been incredible. Gee has only allowed 1 run in his last two starts over 15 innings.

The Mets beat up on Hudson pretty badly on June 5th for 5 runs in 4 innings. Since then, he beat the Astros going 6 innings and allowing 2 runs.

It’ll be interesting to see if Jason Bay is back in the lineup tonight.

Preview: Mets at Pirates June 10, 2011

New York Mets (30-32) at Pittsburgh Pirates (30-31) 7:05pm

Dillon Gee (6-0 3.33) vs. Charlie Morton (6-2 2.52)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets arrive in Pittsburgh coming off a big series win in Milwaukee. That isn’t easy to do. The Brewers have been nearly unbeatable at home this season. The Pirates have won three series in a row from the Mets, Phillies, and D-Backs.

Morton has been pitching really well for the Pirates. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in his last five starts. The Pirates are 6-5 in his 11 starts this year.

The Mets are 8-0 in Gee’s starts this year. He was fantastic in his last start against the Braves at home throwing 7 shutout innings and getting his sixth straight win.

Jason Bay will ride the pine again for the second straight game in an attempt to get his swing together.

Preview: Braves at Mets Jun 4, 2011

Atlanta Braves (32-26) at New York Mets (26-31) 7:10pm

Jair Jurrjens (7-1 1.51) vs. Dillon Gee (5-0 3.83)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need to win tonight and tomorrow to take this home series from the Braves. They’ll go for it behind Gee and the Mets have won all seven games he started this season. He’s been pitching really well, frequently getting to the sixth inning or beyond in his starts.

The Mets won’t have an easy time facing Jurrjens though. He’s been on fire since starting the season on the DL. The Braves are 7-2 in his nine starts this year. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in any start but his BAA is .271 on the road. So there’s hope that the Mets can get to him tonight.

Mets 7 – Pirates 3 May 30, 2011

The Mets got another good effort from Dillon Gee going 7 innings and giving up only 3 runs. He had 8 strikeouts and no walks lifting his record to 5-0 this season. He’s been terrific since last September every time he’s been given an opportunity. At this point, I don’t know how he could lose his spot in the rotation.

The Mets offense crushed the Pirates pitchers for 15 hits and 2 walks. But they left 10 runners on base. The damage could have been much worse than the 7 runs they scored. Josh Thole had the big hit, a 2-run double in the bottom of the seventh that gave the Mets the lead for good in the game. Daniel Murphy, Angel Pagan, and Ruben Tejada had 3 hits apiece tonight.

The Mets take the first game of the four game series.

Preview: Pirates at Mets May 30, 2011

Pittsburgh Pirates (24-27) at New York Mets (24-28) 7:10pm

Charlie Morton (5-2 2.61) vs. Dillon Gee (4-0 3.82)

TV: SNY              Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Pirates come to town tonight to start a four game series. They’re currently in fourth place in the NL Central, 6.5 games behind the Cardinals. The Pirates arrived in New York from Chicago having won two of three games there.

Morton has been somewhat of a revelation for the Pirates after having a terrible 2010. The Pirates are 5-4 in his 9 starts and he’s really only had two bad starts. He’s also had two complete game victories this year including one that was a shutout of the Reds on May 18 in Cincinnati.

Gee has also pitched well in his 6 starts this season. The Mets are 6-0 in his starts. You can’t do much more than that. He’s just been a winner both this season and at the end of 2010 when he was called up.
