Washington Nationals (4-10) vs. New York Mets (6-6) 7:10pm TV: SNY Radio: WFAN
Matt Chico (0-2) vs. John Maine (0-1)
What to watch: Playing the Nationals is a good way to get your team right. It’s hard to figure out what their strategy is with a strange mix of veterans and a couple of young guys. I’m looking for John Maine to return to his spring training form tonight.
Philadelphia Phillies (4-5) at New York Mets (3-4) 7:10pm TV: SNY Radio: WFAN
Adam Eaton (0-0) vs. John Maine (0-1)
What to watch: The Mets need to win the rubber game of the series to prevent losing a home series to division rival Phillies. John Maine looks to rebound from a poor first start after having a terrific spring.
New York Mets (2-1) at Atlanta Braves (1-3) 3:55pm TV: Fox Radio: WFAN-AM
John Maine (0-0) vs. Tim Hudson (0-0)
What to watch: Repeat of yesterday’s comments… This one’s a good pitching match-up. Hopefully, the weather will hold up so they can get the game in today.
Mets at Marlins 4:10pm Santana vs. Hendrickson TV: SNY
Much like the Mets, I’m preparing for the first game of the season. I’m connecting to the painfully slow Internet connection in my hotel searching for some information about the Mets opening day game.
Bart Hubbach reports for the Post today that Johan Santana and the rest of the team worked out at Dolphins Stadium yesterday.
“This is what I’ve been waiting for,” he said with a smile yesterday after the Mets’ workout at Dolphin Stadium. “There are a lot of expectations, and I’m fine with that. I know exactly what I have to do.”
Today is the day that we’ve been waiting for as Mets fans. Today clears the slate from last seasons “Collapse”. Now that’s history and Willie Randolph and the team will be evaluated by baseball historians in much the same way that Gene Mauch and the 1964 Phillies are.
Now we get to finally move on. There have have been hundreds, maybe thousands, of articles and columns and books written about “The Collapse”. That’s all over now and a new season begins.
Today is Day 1 of the run for the 2008 World Series victory.
Location: Ft. Lauderdale, FL 1:05pm TV: None Radio: None
What to watch: Certainly the storyline in this game is that Orlando Hernandez and Mike Pelfrey are both scheduled to pitch in the same game again. Omar Minaya says that Hernandez is the fifth starter if he’s healthy. Can Pelfrey show something today that will change his mind?
Game Time: 1:05 TV: ESPN Radio: None
Only three games left in the spring. It’s time to just get these out of the way and get into the regular season. The Red Sox – A’s series starting so much earlier than every other team makes everyone anxious to get the season started.
Marlins at Mets [PSL] 1:10pm TV: SNY Radio: None
What to watch: Once again expect the Mets to hide Pedro Martinez in a minor league game. The Marlins don’t have anyone to hide at this point. Most of the team could qualify as minor leaguers.
