Pelfrey 3-Hitter Lifts Mets Over Braves 6-3

Mike Pelfrey continued his second half success story with a complete game 3-hitter. He gave up three runs and had three strikeouts.

The offense came from a variety of sources tonight with Daniel Murphy hitting a two-run single in the first, David Wright with a homer in the fifth, and Fernando Tatis having another multi-hit game going 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored.

The Mets hold the NL East lead with the Phillies topping the awful Nationals again.

What to watch: Pelfrey threw seven shutout innings in his last start in Pittsburgh and has been a complete revelation in the second half of the season. Jurrjens has been good as well, but he’s lost 3 of his last 4 decisions. Look for the Mets to keep the good times rolling tonight.

Mets Pelfrey Dominates Pirates In 2-1 Win

There wasn’t much offense from either team tonight. The Mets put up two runs in the first inning on a David Wright RBI single and a wild pitch. That’s it.

Mike Pelfrey was fantastic throwing seven scoreless innings. The bullpen was a little shaky again with Duaner Sanchez giving up a homer to light-hitting Jack Wilson in the eighth. But Pedro Feliciano bailed Sanchez out in the eighth. And Aaron Heilman got the save in the ninth. Argenis Reyes made a terrific play on a ground ball that Carlos Delgado missed to get a key out at first in the ninth.

The Mets hold onto sole possession of first place with the win.

On Deck- August 15- Mets at Pirates [Game 1]

New York Mets (65-56 Road: 29-33) at Pittsburgh Pirates (55-66 Home: 33-28) 7:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (10-8 4.11) vs. Jason Davis (1-1 1.38)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets get to Pittsburgh riding a three game winning streak. Pelfrey hasn’t pitched well in 2 of his last 3 starts, both against the Marlins. I’d look for him to have a nice bounce back game against the Pirates.

Mets Roughed Up By Marlins In 8-2 Loss

Mike Pelfrey didn’t have it today at all. It was one of his worst starts in quite a while. He gave up six runs over 4.2 innings. Carlos Muniz didn’t fare much better in the sixth inning either. He gave up home runs to Luis Gonzalez and Mike Jacobs.

The Mets had virtually no offense either managing only six hits and two walks. Jose Reyes was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI. That’s pretty much all of the offense.

The Mets end up winning two out of three in the series against the Marlins.

Tatis 2HR Leads Mets Over Padres 6-5

Mike Pelfrey did a nice job going 6.2 innings and giving up only two solo homers. And Fernando Tatis had a monster night with two home runs and 4 RBI’s which prompted a curtain call from the fans.

But the Mets struggled without Billy Wagner in the ninth.  Aaron Heilman gave up a hit, a walk, then a three run homer to bring the Pads within one run of tying the game. He was bailed out by Scott Schoenweiss but the ninth inning is going to be very tenuous for the next two weeks until Wagner gets back.
