Game Preview: Cardinals at Mets [Game 68] June 22, 2009

st_louis_cardinals_logoSt. Louis Cardinals (39-31 Road: 18-15) at New York Mets (34-33 Home: 19-13)   7:10 pm

Todd Wellemeyer (6-6 5.36) vs. Tim Redding (0-2 6.27)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: First of all, I’ll be at the game tonight so my recap won’t be at my usual time. But for you Twerps, you can follow my on Twitter from the game. The Mets have lost 8 of their last 11 games and look pretty ragged right now. The Mets are also 1-5 in the games that Redding has started. The Cards are on fire winning five of their last six games! What’s worse is that Albert Pujols is on a tear right now. Look at his line: .329 26 HR 68 RBI. Suffice it to say I’m worried about this four game series.

Game Preview: Mets at Orioles [Game 63] June 17, 2009

orioles-logoNew York Mets (33-29 Road: 15-18)  at Baltimore Orioles (27-37 Home: 19-17) 7:05 pm

Tim Redding (0-2 6.18) vs. Koji Uehara (2-4 4.37)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets got a gift of a game last night due to 3 Baltimore errors. The Mets look to take another one tonight with Uehara on the mound. The Orioles have lost 7 of the last 8 games that he’s started. Redding has pitched pretty well in his last 2 starts for the Mets and looks to keep that trend alive tonight.

Phillies 6 – Mets 3 June 11, 2009

For the second straight game the Mets lost in extra innings to the Phillies. The Mets have to lead the league in debilitating losses this season, and this is another one. Raul Ibanez hit a 3-run homer off Ken Takahashi in the 10th inning for the win.

The Mets had a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning and Tim Redding was pitching pretty well. Redding ended up going 7 innings and giving up 3 runs. That’s a solid performance that’ll give Jerry Manuel the confidence to run him out there again in five days.

The offense came from Luis Castillo with 3 hits and Carlos Beltran kept driving him in. David Wright also continued his hot hitting going 3 for 4.

Overall, it’s an incredibly disappointing series to lose two extra inning games at home to the Phillies.

phillies logoPhiladelphia Phillies (34-23 Road: 22-9) at New York Mets (31-26 Home: 18-10)  7:10 pm

Jamie Moyer (4-5 6.27) vs. Tim Redding (0-2 6.97)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The rubber game of the series is an important one for the Mets to win at home. The Phillies have lost 5 of the last 6 games that Moyer has started, although he’s recovered a bit from his early seasons struggles. The Mets have lost 3 of the 4 games that Redding started this season. But his last start in Washington was good (6 IP, 1 ER).

Mets 3 – Nationals 1 June 5, 2009

When things are going badly it’s nice to have a three game series against the Nationals. They are absolutely putrid. Even Tim Redding looked good against them going 6 innings and giving up just one run. And the bullpen backed him up big-time. They got 4 shutout innings from the bullpen and Shawn Green looks like he’s found his stuff again after a few weeks when he couldn’t get anyone out.

The Mets offense was all about David Wright tonight (4 for 5). He hit a huge 2-run double in the tenth inning to win it and cap a big night for him. On a strange note, he was thrown out at third base three times in the game. You don’t see that very often, and with good reason. I’m not sure if Razor Shines was the culprit or Wright was overly aggressive on the bases. But he needs to sharpen that up. Against a better team that could cost the Mets a game.

The Mets take the first of three and do it again tomorrow night in DC. Don’t forget the game is at night, there aren’t too many Saturday night games.

Pre-Game: Mets at Nationals [Game 53] June 5, 2009

washington-nationals-logoNew York Mets (28-24 Road: 11-15) at Washington Nationals (14-38 Home: 8-18) 7:05 pm

Tim Redding (0-2 9.20) vs. Shairon Martis (5-1 5.62)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets get to Washington limping after a sweep in Pittsburgh. But the Nationals have lost 7 of their last 8 games, nothing unusual for them. Redding has been horrible in his last two starts, getting rocked for at least six runs in each. Martis has been bad in his last three starts, getting hit for at least five runs in each. This could be an offensive explosion tonight for both teams.

Marlins 7 – Mets 3 May 30, 2009

Tim Redding had his second straight bad start today and that puts the Mets out of the game early. Going up against Josh Johnson and with a Mets lineup filled with backup’s, Redding had to be very good and he wasn’t. He gave up 7 runs and couldn’t even get an out in the fifth inning when he was pulled by Jerry Manuel. The bullpen came in and did a good job again, highlighted by Ken Takahashi going 3 innings in releif without giving up a run.

There wasn’t much in the Mets offense to write about. Several of the regulars were sitting out and Carlos Beltran had to leave the game due to stomach problems. Fernando Martinez got his first big league hit and RBI going 2- for-5 with a double.
