On Deck- September 18- Mets at Nationals [Game 4]

New York Mets (84-67 Road: 39-38) at Washington Nationals (58-94 Home: 33-41)7:10pm

Johan Santana (13-7 2.70) vs. Tim Redding (10-9 4.54)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the split of the series in DC. Santana is a quality start machine and the Mets could really use a complete game to keep the failing bullpen off the field.

Beltran 2 HR’s Power Mets Over Nats 9-7

Brandon Knight did a decent job pitching five innings and giving up two runs. Then the disaster that the Mets call a bullpen took over. It took seven relievers to stumble through the final four innings giving up five runs along the way.

Carlos Beltran lit up the Nats pitchers for two homers. And Jose Reyes led off the game with a homer as well. The Mets had 10 hits in the game and four were home runs.

Apparently, every game is going to be a nail biter even when the Mets score nine runs. This is no way to prepare for a serious playoff run.

On Deck- September 17- Mets at Nationals [Game 3]

New York Mets (83-67 Road: 38-38) at Washington Nationals (58-93 Home: 33-40)7:10pm

Brandon Knight (0-0 6.43) vs. Shairon Martis (0-2 2.70)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets need a win about as badly as they ever have this season. They turn to spot starter Knight, back from the Olympics, to set them straight. More importantly, the Mets have only scored 2 runs in 18 innings against the Nationals in this series. That’s ugly.

Mets Shut Out By Nats 1-0 For Third Straight Loss

Mets manager Jerry Manuel held a team meeting prior to tonight’s game to rally the troops. It didn’t work…

The Mets were shut out by Odalis Perez and the lowly Nationals for their third consecutive loss. Visions of “The Collapse” are dancing through our heads.

Mike Pelfrey was terrific pitching seven innings giving up only one run. He got no support from the offense as the Mets mustered only four hits.

Fernando Tatis left the game with a separated shoulder after diving for a line drive in left field.

Mets Stifled By Nats Lannan 7-2

Pedro Martinez was very hittable again going six innings and giving up four runs. As usual, he gave up one in the first. The Mets always start the game in the hole when Pedro pitches.

The Nats’ John Lannan pitched extremely well going seven innings giving up only one run.

The Mets had little offense to speak of so I won’t even bother. They’ve now lost three of their last four games and the NL East lead is down to .5 game.
