Mets GM Sandy Alderson spent some time with Joe and Evan from WFAN before the game yesterday. They really hit Sandy with all of the relevant topics that we’ve been talking about as Mets fans. They talked about the realistic expectations for the season, signing David Wright to an extension, his thoughts on the Joey Votto contract and more. It’s definitely worth a listen.

There was some celebrating going on last night by Mets fans after the 2-1 win over the Yankees in the Bronx. It was only one game but beating the Yankees in their stadium and finally getting back to .500 was something to enjoy for one night. As Mets fans, we’ve had to find small victories in recent years.
Justin Turner had another big night and R.A. Dickey finally got his first win since his season debut nearly two months ago. Here’s some post-game audio from the team regarding the win last night.

The Mets and Braves were rained out in Atlanta last night and the Braves decided to schedule a doubleheader for 4pm today. It’s the home team’s decision how to reschedule a rain out. Despite the fact that the Mets visit Atlanta two more times this year, the Braves opted for a doubleheader today after the Mets played a doubleheader against Colorado on Thursday.
The Mets had to use seven relievers to get through the doubleheader against Colorado. Chris Young is still questionable for his start on Sunday. He couldn’t make the start last night, if the Mets played, because of bicep tendinitis. The concern is that if he starts the game tomorrow and has to bail out early, the bullpen won’t have anyone left available to pitch.
Assistant GM John Ricco is traveling with the team in Atlanta. He met with Dan Warthen, Young, Ray Ramirez, and Terry Collins last night when the rain out was announced to discuss the situation. He and Young spoke to reporters after the meeting which you can hear below.

Here’s the post game reaction from Terry Collins and Mike Pelfrey to last night’s loss to the Phillies. You can read the full game recap here. It was an ugly loss and the second straight bad start for Pelfrey.

The Mets had their press conference for Terry Collins this morning. Dave Howard and Sandy Alderson had very brief introductions followed by some comments by Collins and questions from the media.
You can hear the full press conference here.
The overriding theme of Collins’ comments was that he wants his players to have attention to detail and “play the game the right way”. To me, that’s code for playing disciplined, old school baseball. We’ll see how well that flies with a high-priced, veteran team. It may work for teenagers and guys trying to make the leap from double or triple-A to the big’s, but I have a feeling he’s going to get a different reaction from guys that joined the Mets as high-priced free agents.
It’s also interesting to note that Collins is working on a two year contract with a club option for a third year. Clearly, the Mets learned from their mistakes with Art Howe and Willie Randolph not to get locked into long term deals for managers.
After the press conference Alderson and Collins made the rounds to all the local media outlets. Here are some audio samples for you.

Here’s the audio from Sandy Alderson’s first appearance with Mike Francesa. It’s a long audio clip, about 42 minutes. But Francesa does a good job of getting to the relevant points that you’d want to hear about.
Francesa, of course, talks to Alderson about the current roster and the medical situation. But he also gets into his Oakland days and gets a denial from Alderson that he knew about steroids on those teams.
I take from the audio that Alderson is an intelligent, well spoken guy and that inspires confidence that he’s got the brains to do a good job. You never know how things will work out but I’m hopeful.
You should definitely check out the audio here.
I’ll be joining the United Cardinal Bloggers Radio Hour tonight to talk Mets-Cardinals baseball. Listen in at 10:30 and call in with questions and comments. You can listen at Blog Talk Radio.
I was at the game last night so I got home too late to work on the game recap. Here’s the box score of the game for you. Big three-run homer from Jeff Francoeur and another nice start from Jon Niese were the stories of the game. Not to mention that the Mets continue their winning ways after home after getting beaten to a pulp on the west coast.
Here’s the post-game audio.
