TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Jerry Manuel is still looking for his first win as Mets manager. As usual, you never know what you’ll see from Perez. It will be interesting to see if new pitching coach Dan Warthen has any words of wisdom for Perez before the game tonight.

Mets Commit 3 Errors In Loss To Angels 6-1

Johan Santana didn’t have it tonight in Jerry Manuel’s first game as the Mets manager. Jose Reyes was hurt in the first inning and showed up Manuel when he was pulled from the game. The game felt like a resounding thud for the Mets.

There was virtually no offense in the game for the Mets against Jon Lackey. Damion Easley scored in the first inning on a double play ground out by David Wright. That was it for the Mets offense.

Santana pitched six innings giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out five. Aaron Heilman pitched a clean seventh inning and Claudio Vargas gave up one more run in the eighth.

The Mets were sloppy in the field with errors by Carlos Delgado, Marlon Anderson, and Luis Castillo.

Jose Reyes Leaves Game With Hamstring Problem

IMG_0116 Jose Reyes led off the game against the Los Angeles Angels with a single up the middle. A great way to start Jerry Manuel’s tenure as manager of the Mets. But it quickly went south.

Reyes pulled up lame at first base with a problem with his left leg. Mets trainer Ray Ramirez and Jerry Manuel came out to talk to Reyes. Manuel decided to play it safe and replace Reyes with Damion Easley at shortstop, the logical thing to do.

Reyes responded by having a fit on the field worthy of a little leaguer. At first he refused to come out of the game. Then he threw hit helmet in front of the Mets dugout and pulled up his shirt on the way into the clubhouse.Jerry Manuel went into the clubhouse at the end of the inning and spent quite a bit of time in there. I’m sure that we’ll here more on this story tomorrow.

Minaya’s Lesson- Don’t Mess With The Media

Mass media

Omar Minaya learned an important lesson today… Make major announcements at a time of day that’s most convenient for the New York media. Otherwise, risk the condemnation and insults hurled your way.

The mainstream media flooded the Internet with stories about how poorly timed the announcement of Willie Randolph’s firing was. There were hundreds, maybe thousands, of stories about the Mets “sneaking” around in the middle of the night to fire Willie so it wouldn’t be announced in time to make the daily newspapers.

As a fan, I could care less when the announcement came. As long as the Mets came to a decision that’s in the best interest of the team moving forward. If it’s three in the morning or three in the afternoon, I really don’t care.
