Here’s some video from Ken Rosethal of Fox Sports. In his weekly video review of the trade rumors around the league, he leads with a rumor about K-Rod to the Yankees. The Yankees are concerned that Mariano Rivera’s triceps injury is more serious than has been publicized and that Rafael Soriano won’t be able to come back from elbow problems after the All-Star break.

Rosenthal says that the Mets have already called the Yankees to gauge their interest in K-Rod. But the Yankees aren’t currently interested in pulling the trigger on a deal. They want to wait until the deadline and would only be interested in a deal that returns next to nothing to the Mets.

K-Rod’s going to be a tough sell to any team because of his vesting option next season for $17.5 million. MLB.com reported yesterday that K-Rod agreed to leave his agent Paul Kinzer and hired Scott Boras after meeting with Boras while the team was in LA this week.

The Mets have to dump K-Rod on somebody this season. But they don’t have to do it before the non-waiver trading deadline in July. K-Rod would certainly get through waivers in August, so they could do a trade then to move K-Rod somewhere else. But the closer K-Rod gets to finishing 55 games this season and vesting his option for next year, the more difficult a trade will be.

Giants 3 – Mets 1 July 9, 2011

Tim Lincecum

The Mets couldn’t overcome a solid game from Tim Lincecum who went 6 innings and only allowed 1 run. Chris Capuano stayed close to him and pitched well enough to win on most nights but going against Lincecum is a different story. Capuano also went 6 innings and allowed only 2 runs. Bobby Parnell pitched the seventh inning and allowed another run to the Giants on 2 hits.

The Mets had no offense going at all in this game. They only had 4 hits and 5 walks as a team. The only run they scored was on a pair of doubles in the first inning by Carlos Beltran and Daniel Murphy. That was the offense for the game.

The Mets and Giants will play the rubber game of the series on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

The Mets got another solid start from R.A. Dickey and came up with a big ninth inning win in San Francisco. Dickey went 7 innings and allowed only 2 runs on 7 hits and no walks. Both runs were given up to Nate Schierhotlz on a sac fly in the fourth inning and a solo homer in the sixth inning. The homer was into McCovey Cove too.

The Mets scored in the fifth inning on an Angel Pagan 2-run homer. Carlos Beltran and Daniel Murphy both had 3 hits in the game. The game was tied 2-2 going into the ninth. Scott Hairston led off the inning with a solo homer off Brian Wilson in dramatic fashion. The Mets went on to put up three more hits in the inning off three Giants relievers. It was a big late inning win for the Mets.

Preview: Mets at Giants July 8, 2011

New York Mets (45-43) at San Francisco Giants (50-39) 10:15pm

R.A. Dickey (4-7 3.68) vs. Ryan Vogelsong (6-1 2.13)

TV: SNY             Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Giants just split a four game series at home with the Padres and have a 2 game lead in the NL West over the D-Backs. Vogelsong has been kicking around the league for the last 10 years but he’s been pitching pretty well this season. The Mets hit him hard on May 3rd at Citi Field for 5 runs in 4 innings. But that was the last time he allowed more than 3 runs in a start.

Dickey has been pitching well too. Although he left his last start against the Yankees after 5 innings with tightness in his glute. The Mets have won the last three games that Dickey started.

Dodgers 6 – Mets 0 July 7, 2011

The Dodgers finally took one game of the four game series tonight. They did it behind a great game by Clayton Kershaw who went 8 innings and only allowed 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9. Dillon Gee was matching him through the first 5 innings. He only allowed 1 hit to the Dodgers. But Gee lost it in the sixth inning when the Dodgers scored 5 runs.

The Mets had very little offense as you would guess. They only had 6 hits in the game and 4 walks. Angel Pagan and Daniel Murphy both had a couple of hits in the game. And the Mets managed to load the bases in the ninth inning but couldn’t rally enough to even score one run.

The Mets are headed to San Francisco for a three game series starting tomorrow night.

Mets 5 – Dodgers 3 July 7, 2011

Ruben Tejada

The Mets won their fourth straight game behind a really solid start by Jon Niese. He went 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk with 6 strikeouts. The only inning that he had any real trouble was the sixth when the Dodgers scored 2 runs. Other than that, he was really in control. As I wrote after last night’s game, the Dodgers are a bad team so these win have to be taken with a grain of salt. But the Mets won the series tonight and have a chance for the rare four game sweep on the road tomorrow night.

The Mets offense was also solid up and down the order. They had 11 hits and 1 walk in the game. The notable games were from Ruben Tejada who had a 2-run double in the sixth inning that put the Mets up for good. And Justin Turner had a nice RBI single in the ninth that gave the Mets the insurance run they typically don’t get in late innings.

The big news is that Jason Bay had a monster game with two home runs and 4 RBI’s. I will say that the Dodgers are a miserable team, so any success the Mets have in LA should be tempered by that fact. But it’s good to see Bay hitting the ball other than grounding out to shortstop.

Mike Pelfrey also had a solid start and didn’t get flustered with runners on base. He threw 6 shutout innings allowing 5 hits and 2 walks but he did hit two batters. I was surprised that the Dodgers didn’t retaliate even though it was clear that Pelfrey wasn’t trying to hit anyone.

The Mets can take the series with a win tomorrow night.
