Brian Schneider X-Rays Negative

New York Mets catcher Brian Schneider was beat up badly by the Colorado Rockies last night. Not in a brawl but by foul balls, three of them. One in particular bounced off his left wrist and caused him to be replaced in the game by Robinson Cancel. The x-rays came back negative and Schneider is now listed as day-to-day. I would have to think that Ramon Castro will get a start this afternoon.

Pedro Shelled As Mets Lose To Rockies 7-1

image Pedro Martinez cruised through the first four innings but got clobbered in the fifth giving up six runs and effectively ending the game.

His final line was 4.1 IP/ 9 H/ 6 E/ 6 ER/ 1 BB/ 5 K/ 2 HR. It was a really bad start including home runs on back to back pitches by Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe.

All of the Mets offense happened in the first inning on a Jose Reyes triple and a Luis Castillo sacrifice fly. The Mets did manager to load the bases in the ninth inning but it was too little too late.

Ubaldo Jimenez was on fire tonight pitching eight innings for the Rockies and gave up only two hits and one run. He also chipped in two hits and a run scored.

On Deck: June 21- Mets At Rockies (Game 2)

New York Mets (36-36 Road: 16-22) at Colorado Rockies (31-43 Home: 19-18) 8:05 pm

Pedro Martinez (2-0 5.31) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (1-7 4.85)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are actually starting to look like a hustling team in the first few games under Jerry Manuel. Pedro Martinez had a very good game in his last start against Texas on June 15 going six innings and giving up one earned run. Pitching in Colorado can be very different than Shea Stadium though.

Mets Injury News: Alou And Church

Several media outlets have reported on the health of New York Mets outfielders Moises Alou and Ryan Church. New manager Jerry Manuel spoke to the media from Colorado about both players. Here’s the summary version:

  • Alou- He probably won’t be back anytime soon. His left calf muscle is still giving him some pain, and he’s only been doing some light jogging.
  • Church- He’s feeling much better from the effects of his second concussion this season. He’s been working out and will most likely play a game or two with the Single-A Brooklyn Cyclones as he prepares to return to the Mets.

Delgado, Nixon Homer As Mets Top Rockies 7-2

image The Mets got what they wanted out of John Maine. He went deeper into the game on fewer pitches and improved his record to 7-5. His line was: image

Pedro Feliciano, Joe Smith, and Aaron Heilman worked clean through the last 2.1 innings of the game.

Carlos Delgado hit his 11th home run off Aaron Cook in the Mets five run second inning. Trot Nixon also hit his first home run as a Met. Carlos Beltran was hitting screaming line drives all over the field tonight in a 3.for 5 effort.

The Mets absolutely look like they had an extra spring in their step tonight. It looks like the momentum from the 10th inning win in Los Angeles on Wednesday carried over to tonight’s game.

Mets Taking Early BP At Coors Field

Reports are coming in that several Mets (David Wright, Brian Schneider, Fernando Tatis, Robinson Cancel, and even Carlos Delgado) are taking some early batting practice.  Apparently, Delgado didn’t do much of that during Willie Randolph’s reign as manager. The reports also say that Jerry Manuel is with the players running the show.
