Preview: Mets at Nationals July 3, 2010

New York Mets (45-35) at Washington Nationals (35-46) 4:10 pm

R.A. Dickey (6-1 2.98) vs Stephen Strasburg (2-2 2.27)

TV: FOX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: This is an odd pitching match-up. I have to admit that I can’t wait to see Strasburg this afternoon. It’s not surprising that Fox picked up this game. The young phenom has been drawing crowds wherever he goes. I bet the TV ratings will be relatively good for a summer afternoon on a holiday weekend. Dickey had his first loss and really bad start against the Marlins on Monday. This is where we’ll start to see if his first six wins were a mirage or not.

Preview: Mets at Nationals July 2, 2010

New York Mets (44-35) at Washington Nationals (35-45) 7:05 pm

Jon Niese (5-2 3.84) vs Luis Atilano (6-4 4.33)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to tie up the series behind Niese who had an excellent start against the Twins in his last outing going 6 IP and giving up no runs on 4 hits. The Nats have lost 4 of the last 5 games that Atilano started. He’s been inconsistent lately. Tonight’s game is a good chance to get a win before they face Stasburg on Saturday.

New York Mets (44-34) at Washington Nationals (34-45) 7:05 pm

Johan Santana (5-5 3.55) vs Livan Hernandez (6-4 3.10)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Who would’ve ever thought Livan would be having a better season than Santana? That’s the case. But the Nationals have lost six of seven games now. Santana has lost two straight games in pitched poorly in four straight. The Mets need him to turn it around quickly.

Preview: Mets at Marlins June 30, 2010

New York Mets (43-34) at Florida Marlins (37-40) 7:05 pm

Mike Pelfrey (10-2 2.71) vs Chris Volstad (4-7 4.40)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to avoid the sweep in Puerto Rico tonight. Pelfrey won his last start against the Twins despite not having his best stuff in his last few starts. The Marlins have lost eight of the last nine games that Volstad started. So there’s some hope for the Mets to take this one and get out of Puerto Rico on a high note.

Preview: Mets at Marlins June 29, 2010

New York Mets (43-33) at Florida Marlins (36-40) 7:05 pm

Hisanori Takahashi (6-3 3.78) vs Nate Robertson (5-6 4.89)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to even up the series behind Takahashi who was dreadful in his last start against the Tigers. He gave up 6 runs in 4 IP. Robertson was even worse in his last start against the Orioles giving up 5 runs in 2.1 IP. It could be an offensive battle in Puerto Rico tonight.

Mets Road Trip Preview: June 28th- July 5th, 2010

Last time we joined you for a road trip preview, even though the teams on the schedule featured lower-talented rosters, the Mets’ 8-18 record on the road at the time gave all skeptics some fuel for the thought of another horrible road trip for the Amazin’s.

The Mets posted a more than impressive 7-2 record on that road trip, pushing their overall road record to a respectable 15-20.

It only gets harder this time around, as they face off against the rival Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals. They may be the two worst teams in the division record-wise, but the Mets are currently 3-8 this year on the road against divisional opponents. That will need to change quickly in order for the Mets to have a successful road trip.

Preview: Mets at Marlins June 28, 2010

New York Mets (43-32) at Florida Marlins (35-40) 7:05 pm

R.A. Dickey (6-0 2.33) vs Ricky Nolasco (6-6 4.92)

TV: ESPN2   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets start up a three game series with the Marlins in Puerto Rico. The Marlins just got swept by the Padres and have lost four straight games. Nolasco has lost two of his last three starts and gave up 11 ER during that period. Dickey is coming off throwing 8 shutout innings against the Tigers. Of course, there’s been much speculation about Bobby Valentine taking over the Marlins. It appears now that he won’t be managing the Marlins.
