Washington Nationals (17-14) at New York Mets (17-14)   7:10 pm

Luis Atilano (2-0 4.67) vs John Maine (1-1 5.97)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Nationals come to town playing much better than we’re used to seeing from them. They took two of three from the Marlins in their last series. Atilano started well for them but got rocked by the Braves in his last start. He gave up 6 ER in 5.1 IP. Maine has put up two quality starts in a row after a terrible start to the season.

Preview: Giants at Mets May 9, 2010

San Francisco Giants (17-12) at New York Mets (17-13)   1:10 pm

Tim Lincecum (4-0 1.70) vs Oliver Perez (0-2 4.05)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: After two dramatic wins, the Mets have a chance to sweep the Giants this afternoon. It won’t be easy though. The pitching appears to be a mismatch in the Giant’s favor. Two-time Cy Young Award winner Lincecum is up against Perez. Lincecum is pitching brilliantly again this year. And Perez is… well, he’s Perez. Although he hasn’t pitched terribly, Jerry Manuel has a very quick hook with him.

San Francisco Giants (17-11) at New York Mets (16-13)   1:10 pm

Todd Wellemeyer (1-3 5.55) vs Johan Santana (3-2 4.50)

TV: WPIX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Hopefully, the Mets can keep the momentum going this afternoon against the Giants after last night’s walk-off homer by Rod Barajas. This should be an interesting game for Santana. He was torched for 10 runs in 3.2 IP in his last start in Philly, his worst start as a Mets player and probably ever. If he doesn’t bounce back with a good start today, we need to hit the panic button that something is really wrong. Wellemeyer’s last start at home against Philly was excellent. He went 7 IP giving up 2 ER and got the win. After that he relived Jonathan Sanchez in Colorado and threw 3 IP of scoreless relief.

San Francisco Giants (17-10) at New York Mets (15-13)   7:10 pm

Jonathan Sanchez (2-2 2.48) vs Mike Pelfrey (4-1 2.40)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: This one could have the making of a good pitching match up. Pelfrey had an MRI earlier this week but got the go-ahead to make this start tonight. His right shoulder was stiff after his last start but he was okay to do some bullpen work. Sanchez has great stuff but doesn’t always have great games. He did throw eight shutout innings against Pittsburgh last month. So he’s capable of having excellent starts like his no-hitter last July.

Preview: Mets at Reds May 5, 2010

New York Mets (15-12)  at Cincinnati Reds (13-14) 12:35 pm

Jon Niese (1-1 3.10) vs. Johnny Cueto (1-1 5.33)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Reds play the rubber game of the series early tomorrow afternoon. Niese is coming off three excellent starts in a row, only giving up 2 ER in his last 20 IP. The Mets have won all three games. Cueto has been up and down for the Reds this season. He has good stuff but his WHIP is at 1.52 so far this year. He’s had way too many runners on base against him.

Preview: Mets at Reds May 4, 2010

New York Mets (14-12)  at Cincinnati Reds (13-13) 7:10 pm

John Maine (1-1 7.15) vs. Bronson Arroyo (1-2 6.37)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are trying to break their three game losing streak and have a chance to win the series in Cincy. Maine had a quality start the last time out against the Dodgers going 6 IP and giving up only 2 ER. That’s something to build on for tonight’s game. Arroyo has really been up and down this season but had a good start in Houston the last time he pitched. He went 6.2 IP and gave up 2 ER. He reminds me of Oliver Perez. He can be really good or really awful and you never know which one it’ll be.

Preview: Mets at Reds May 3, 2010

New York Mets (14-11)  at Cincinnati Reds (12-13) 7:10 pm

Oliver Perez (0-2 4.35) vs. Mike Leake (2-0 3.25)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets roll into Cincy for a three-game series this week. Perez starts things off for the Mets. He got into trouble in his last start against the Dodgers and couldn’t make it out of the fourth inning. Jerry Manuel clearly had a quick hook with him. Expect that to continue. Leake is a rookie that’s been pitching well for the Reds. They’ve won three of the four games he started this season.
