Preview: Braves at Mets April 24, 2010

Atlanta Braves (8-8) at New York Mets (8-9)  1:10 pm

Jair Jurrjens (0-1 6.06) vs. Jon Niese (0-1 4.32)

TV: WPIX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Niese’s last start against the Cubs was a good one, going 5.2 IP and giving up no earned runs in a no-decision. Jurrjens went 8 IP in his last start against Colorado giving up 3 earned runs in a no-decision. The Mets’ lineup looked pretty good with Jose Reyes hitting third in the order, so I’m sure we’ll see more of that this weekend.

Atlanta Braves (8-7) at New York Mets (7-9)  7:10 pm

Kenshin Kawakami (0-2 4.91) vs. John Maine (0-1 10.38)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Braves are in town for a 3-game weekend series starting tonight. They just lost two out of three in Philly and they’re 5-5 in their last ten games. Kawakami lost his last start at home to the Rockies giving up 4 earned runs in 5 IP. We’ll all be watching Maine carefully. One more disaster could lose his spot in the rotation.

Preview: Cubs at Mets April 22, 2010

Chicago Cubs (6-9) at New York Mets (6-9)  7:10 pm

Tom Gorzelanny (0-1 1.93) vs. Johan Santana (1-1 3.00)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Cubs are playing the final game of their four game series tonight. The Mets can take the series with a win which would be their first series win of the season. Gorzelanny left his last start against Houston after only 3 innings when he took a line drive off his left arm. Santana was great in his last start in St. Louis throwing 7 shutout innings in what would go onto become the “marathon game”.

Chicago Cubs (5-9) at New York Mets (6-8)  7:10 pm

Carlos Silva (1-0 0.69) vs. Oliver Perez (0-1 3.75)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for their third straight win over the Cubs tonight at Citi Field. The big question is whether Perez can duplicate the good start he had in St. Louis going 6.1 IP and giving up 1 ER. He hasn’t exactly been the model of consistency in his career. Silva’s been around MLB for 8 years and the last couple have been pretty poor. But his first two starts of this season have been excellent throwing 13 IP and only giving up 1 ER.

Chicago Cubs (5-8) at New York Mets (5-8)  7:10 pm

Carlos Zambrano (1-1 9.45) vs. Mike Pelfrey (2-0 1.29)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The hoopla surrounding Ike Davis will probably still continue for a few days. Pelfrey has been outstanding so far this season. And Zambrano has been somewhat hittable. Although he did just have one horrendous start to begin the season and his last two haven’t been that bad. The Mets go for two wins in a row over the Cubs.

Chicago Cubs (5-7) at New York Mets (4-8)  7:10 pm

Randy Wells (1-0 2.92) vs. Jon Niese (0-1 6.55)

TV: ESPN, SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: This is an interesting series because both teams aren’t playing as well as expected so far this season. Niese got hit hard in his last start in Colorado, giving up 5 runs in 5 IP. Wells wasn’t much better in his last start in Milwaukee giving up 4 runs in 6.1 IP. The Mets still haven’t won a series yet this season but the big story all week is going to be when, or if, the Mets are going to call up Ike Davis from Buffalo to play first base.

Preview: Mets at Cardinals April 18, 2010

New York Mets (4-7) at St. Louis Cardinals (7-4) 8:05 pm

John Maine (0-1 13.50) vs. Adam Wainwright (2-0 1.20)

TV: ESPN   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Cards play the rubber game of the series on national TV tonight. It’s a huge game for the Mets because they still haven’t won a series yet this season. It’s also a huge game for Maine. He’s been awful so far and is in serious danger of losing his spot in the rotation if he has another embarrassing outing on national TV. Wainwright has been fantastic in his first two starts this season. He’s been tremendous since he went into the Cardinals rotation in 2007 posting a 48-24 career record and 3.13 ERA.
