Preview: Mets at Cardinals April 17, 2010

New York Mets (3-7) at St. Louis Cardinals (7-3) 4:10 pm

Johan Santana (1-1 4.91) vs. Jaime Garcia (1-0 1.50)

TV: FOX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Cards start two national TV games in a row, beginning today. Santana lost his last start tot he Nationals giving up a grand slam in the first inning. He’ll certainly be looking for some redemption today. Garcia is 23 years-old and pitched an excellent game in his only other start this season against the Brewers, going 6 IP and giving up 1 ER.

New York Mets (3-6) at St. Louis Cardinals (6-3) 8:15 pm

Oliver Perez (0-1 6.35) vs. Chris Carpenter (1-0 5.73)

TV: WPIX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets limp into St. Louis against a Cardinals team that has won three series’ in a row against the Reds, Brewers, and hapless Astros. Carpenter is a tremendous pitcher, so the task won’t be easy. But he got roughed up by the Brewers in his last start, a loss. Perez makes his second start of the season after losing to the Nationals at Citi Field. It’s a three game series ending on national TV on Sunday night.

Preview: Mets at Rockies April 15, 2010

New York Mets (2-6) at Colorado Rockies (5-3) 3:10 pm

Mike Pelfrey (1-0 3.00) vs. Jorge De La Rosa (1-0 0.00)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are in need of a win to avoid the sweep in Colorado. Pelfrey had a nice start against the Nationals in his season debut. Hopefully, he can keep that going. De La Rosa threw 7 shutout innings against the Giants in his season debut. So this won’t be an easy task to beat him.

New York Mets (2-5) at Colorado Rockies (4-3) 8:40 pm

Jon Niese (0-1 4.50) vs. Aaron Cook (0-1 6.75)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are on a three game losing streak early in the season. Niese pitched a decent game in his first start although losing to the Marlins. Cook got knocked around in Milwaukee in his first start for 5 runs in 5.1 IP. It should be interesting to see if Jerry Manuel hits the panic button this early and shakes up the lineup.

New York Mets (2-4) at Colorado Rockies (3-3) 8:40 pm

John Maine  (0-0 7.20) vs. Greg Smith (0-1 9.00)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets play their first road series of the season in Colorado tonight after losing a home series to the Nationals. The Rockies are coming off a home series win against the Padres. In 2009 the Mets were 4-3 against the Rockies. Maine has a lot of questions surrounding his ability right now after losing to the Marlins in his first start. The Mets need to start stringing some wins together quickly or there could be some changes on this team.

Preview: Nationals at Mets April 11, 2010

Washington Nationals (2-3) at New York Mets (2-3) 1:10 pm

Livan Hernandez (0-0 -.–) vs. Johan Santana (1-0 1.50)

TV: WPIX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: We’re over the hoopla of Jose Reyes coming back now, so it’s time to win a game and a series today. The Mets cannot lose two straight home series to division rivals to start the season. They need to win this rubber game against the Nats today. It’s a good thing Santana is the guy to do it.

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Perez makes his season debut today and I don’t think any of us have a clue about what to expect from him. Lannan, a Long Beach native, got rocked in his first start this season by the Phillies for 5 runs in 3.2 IP.
