Game Preview: Cardinals at Mets [Game 71] June 25, 2009

st_louis_cardinals_logoSt. Louis Cardinals (40-33 Road: 19-17) at New York Mets (36-34 Home: 21-14)   1:10 pm

Chris Carpenter (5-1 1.53) vs. Johan Santana (8-5 3.22)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: This is another one of those premier pitching match-up’s that you get a few times during the regular season. Carpenter never seems to lose a beat when he misses extended time due to injuries and this season is another example of that. Santana hasn’t been his best over the last month and a half. I’d like to see him start to return to his early season form. The Mets need that badly with the Triple-A lineup that they’re running out there now. Gary Sheffield is likely available for emergencies today after having a cortisone shot in his knee yesterday.

Game Preview: Cardinals at Mets [Game 70] June 24, 2009

st_louis_cardinals_logoSt. Louis Cardinals (40-32 Road: 19-16) at New York Mets (35-34 Home: 20-14)   7:10 pm

Brad Thompson (2-2 3.89) vs. Fernando Nieve (2-0 1.84)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: I’ll be at the game again tonight so you can follow my posts at Twitter. Thompson was working out of the bullpen earlier this season but he’s made four starts recently and hasn’t done too badly. The Cardinals have won three of the games that he started. He’s going up against David Wright and the Mets Triple-A all stars tonight so he has a good chance of continuing his success in the rotation. Nieve is hoping to continue his Cinderella performance with the Mets. If he has another good start, it could move Tim Redding to the bullpen when John Maine comes back from the disabled list.

Game Preview: Cardinals at Mets [Game 68] June 22, 2009

st_louis_cardinals_logoSt. Louis Cardinals (39-31 Road: 18-15) at New York Mets (34-33 Home: 19-13)   7:10 pm

Todd Wellemeyer (6-6 5.36) vs. Tim Redding (0-2 6.27)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: First of all, I’ll be at the game tonight so my recap won’t be at my usual time. But for you Twerps, you can follow my on Twitter from the game. The Mets have lost 8 of their last 11 games and look pretty ragged right now. The Mets are also 1-5 in the games that Redding has started. The Cards are on fire winning five of their last six games! What’s worse is that Albert Pujols is on a tear right now. Look at his line: .329 26 HR 68 RBI. Suffice it to say I’m worried about this four game series.

Game Preview: Rays at Mets [Game 67] June 21, 2009

Rays logoTampa Bay Rays (36-34 Road: 15-22) at New York Mets (34-32 Home: 19-12)   1:10 pm

Jeff Niemann (6-4 4.21) vs. Mike Pelfrey (5-2 4.56)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Rays play the rubber game of the series today before the Cardinals come to town for a four game set. Niemann is a pitcher that appears to be pretty consistent from game to game. He isn’t outstanding but neither is Pelfrey. Niemann is going to pitch a decent game and likely won’t get rocked, especially by the Mets struggling offense.

Game Preview: Rays at Mets [Game 66] June 20, 2009

Rays logoTampa Bay Rays (35-34 Road: 14-22) at New York Mets (34-31 Home: 19-11)   4:10 pm

James Shields (5-5 3.52) vs. Johan Santana (8-4 3.29)

TV: FOX  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: Fox Sports gets a good pitching match-up for this nationally televised game. Hopefully, the rain will hold out for long enough to get the game in. Shields has lost his last three road starts and is pitching to a 4.15 ERA on the road. Shields, like Santana, is a changeup pitcher and told the Tampa Tribune this week that he’s been looking forward to going up against Santana. The Mets are trying to get Santana back on track today. He’s been on a rough stretch for about a month now.

Game Preview: Rays at Mets [Game 65] June 19, 2009

Rays logoTampa Bay Rays (35-33 Road: 14-21) at New York Mets (33-31 Home: 18-11)   7:10 pm

Andy Sonnanstine (5-6 6.65) vs. Fernando Nieve (1-0 2.08)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The AL champs come to town after losing 2 of 3 to the Rockies in Colorado. And Sonnanstine has been very inconsistent this season as you can see by his 6.65 ERA. The Mets have been stumbling badly, losing 4 of their last 5 series. Nieve had an unbelievable game in his first start as a Met against the Yankees. Let’s hope that he can keep it up because it looks like John Maine will be on the DL for a while.

Game Preview: Mets at Orioles [Game 64] June 18, 2009

orioles-logoNew York Mets (33-30 Road: 15-19)  at Baltimore Orioles (28-37 Home: 20-17) 7:05 pm

Livan Hernandez (5-1 4.33) vs. Jason Berken (1-3 7.32)

TV: SNY  Radio:  WFAN

What to watch: The Mets and Orioles play the rubber game of the series before the team comes home to face the reigning American League champion Rays. The weather forecast is good for Baltimore tonight so there won’t be a problem getting the game in. Hernandez was rocked by the Yankees in his last start for 6 runs in 5.1 innings. But he’s been up and down so it’s difficult to know what to expect. There hasn’t been a lot of consistency. Berken is a rookie right-hander making his fifth career start. His first two starts were pretty good but he’s gotten beat up in his last two starts. The Orioles have lost 3 of the 4 games that he’s started.
