Game Preview: Marlins at Mets [Game 19] April 27, 2009

Florida Marlins logoFlorida Marlins (11-7 Road: 6-3) at New York Mets (8-10 Home: 5-4)  7:10 pm

Anibal Sanchez (1-1 2.50) vs. John Maine (0-2 7.47)

TV: SNY  RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Marlins come to town riding a six game losing streak. Sanchez is a good pitcher who just turned 25 years old. His last start was a 7 inning, 3 earned run loss to the Pirates. The Mets would kill for a game like that from Maine. He’s been knocked around badly in his last two starts by the Cardinals and Padres. He’s another one of the Mets starters that needs to get it going or face the possibility of working out of the bullpen.

Game Preview: Nationals at Mets [Game 18] April 26, 2009

Washington Nationals logoWashington Nationals (3-13 Road: 0-8) at New York Mets (8-9 Home: 5-3)  1:10 pm

Jordan Zimmerman (1-0 3.00) vs. Oliver Perez (1-1 7.80)

TV: WPIX   RadioWFAN

What to watch: Zimmerman looks like a bright spot for an otherwise dreadful Nationals team. He made one start against the Braves and got a rare win for the Nats. The Mets have lost 2 of 3 Perez starts. I believe if he gets bombed again today that the Mets may skip his next start so he can try to figure out what his problem(s) are.

Game Preview: Nationals at Mets [Game 17] April 25, 2009

Washington Nationals logoWashington Nationals (3-12 Road: 0-7) at New York Mets (7-9 Home: 4-3)  1:10 pm

Daniel Cabrera (0-1 4.50) vs. Mike Pelfrey (1-0 8.10)

TV: SNY   RadioWFAN

What to watch: Pelfrey is making his first start in 12 days after missing a turn in the rotation because of forearm tendinitis. He says that he feels fine and is ready to go. Cabrera hasn’t pitched terribly for the Nationals but he walks too many hitters (8 walks and 6 strikeouts). He’s one of those curious pitchers that appears to have good stuff but gives up too many walks and gets hit harder than you would think.

Game Preview: Nationals at Mets [Game 16] April 24, 2009

Washington Nationals logoWashington Nationals (3-11 Road: 0-6) at New York Mets (6-9 Home: 3-3)  7:10 pm

Scott Olsen (0-2 9.00) vs. Johan Santana (2-1 0.46)

TV: SNY   RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets are in a 4-game losing streak and coming off a sweep at the hands of the Cardinals. The Nationals just won 2 of 3 at home against Atlanta. Olsen’s last start was a no decision against the Marlins and was a very good game, 7 IP and 2 ER. Santana hasn’t given up an earned run in his last two starts. He’s been terrific. The Mets need to get things turned around starting tonight. Olsen is the first lefty starter they’ve faced this season. Both Fernando Tatis and Gary Sheffield will be in the lineup.

Game Preview: Mets at Cardinals [Game 15] April 23, 2009

St. Louis Cardinals logoNew York Mets (6-8 Road: 3-5) at St. Louis Cardinals (10-5 Home: 7-2) 1:40 pm

Livan Hernandez (1-0 4.63) vs. Kyle Lohse (2-0 2.57)

TV: SNY   RadioWFAN

What to watch: Jerry Manuel promised to shake up the lineup after last night’s loss. The Mets have now lost three games in a row. Expect to see Gary Sheffield in LF, Alex Cora at 2B, Carlos Beltran batting third, and David Wright batting fifth. It’s up to Hernandez to keep the Mets from getting swept in this series. Lohse had two very good starts but got hit by the Cubs in his last start for 4 runs in 5 innings.

Game Preview: Mets at Cardinals [Game 14] April 22, 2009

St. Louis Cardinals logoNew York Mets (6-7 Road: 3-4) at St. Louis Cardinals (9-5 Home: 6-2) 8:15 pm

John Maine (0-1 7.20) vs. Joel Piniero (2-0 5.40)

TV: ESPN RadioWFAN

What to watch: Hopefully, the Mets got all of the bumbling and stumbling they did last night out of their system. Maine hasn’t gone more than 5 innings yet and got ripped by the Padres in his last start. Piniero didn’t pitch well in his last start in Arizona but got a win. It’s time for the Mets to stop underachieving and start playing solid baseball.

Game Preview: Mets at Cardinals [Game 13] April 21, 2009

St. Louis Cardinals LogoNew York Mets (6-6 Road: 3-3) at St. Louis Cardinals (8-5 Home: 5-2) 8:15 pm

Oliver Perez (1-1 7.84) vs. Todd Wellemeyer (1-1 4.50)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: Wellemeyer’s last start in Arizona was excellent going 7 innings and allowing 1 run. The Cards are coming off losing 2 of 3 to the Cubs in Chicago and a rain out on Sunday night. As usual, we have no idea what to expect from Perez. Although, his last start was a step in the right direction. Not that it means anything with him.
