Game Preview: Brewers at Mets [Game 12] April 19,2009

Milwaukee Brewers logoMilwaukee Brewers (3-8 Road: 1-4) at New York Mets (6-5 Home: 3-2) 1:10 pm

Jeff Suppan (0-2 12.91) vs. Nelson Figueroa (0-0 0.00)

TV: WPIX RadioWFAN

What to watch: Suppan has been horrible for the Brewers in his two starts this season. The team was even considering skipping this start to give him some time to figure out what’s going wrong. Figueroa is making the start for the slightly injured Mike Pelfrey today. We may see Fernando Tatis get a start at second base. That could be interesting. Although he appears to be much more comfortable playing the infield than the outfield.

Game Preview: Brewers at Mets [Game 11] April 18, 2009

Milwaukee Brewers logoMilwaukee Brewers (3-7 Road: 1-3) at New York Mets (5-5 Home: 2-2) 1:10 pm

Yovanni Gallardo (1-1 6.94) vs. Johan Santana (1-1 0.71)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: Gallardo’s last start was pretty bad against the Reds. He went 5 innings and gave up 7 runs. He’s the guy they’re counting on to pick up the slack since they lost Ben Sheets and CC Sabathia. We may see Gary Sheffield get a start in left field today. I expect Santana to put on a good show in his first start at Citi Field.

Game Preview: Brewers at Mets [Game 10] April 17, 2009

Milwaukee Brewers logoMilwaukee Brewers (3-6 Road: 1-2) at New York Mets (4-5 Home: 1-2) 7:10 pm

Dave Bush (0-0 6.14) vs. Livan Hernandez (1-0 2.70)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: Bush got hit in a relief appearance but had a good start against the Cubs last Saturday, going 6.1 innings and giving up 3 runs. Hernandez was a nice surprise in his first start as a Met. The Brewers come to town losing four of their last five games. There are rumors that Jeff Suppan has been so bad that the Brewers may even skip his start on Sunday.

Game Preview: Padres at Mets [Game 9] April 16, 2009

San Diego Padres logoSan Diego Padres (6-3 Road: 1-1) at New York Mets (4-4 Home: 1-1) 7:10 pm

Jake Peavey (1-1 3.52) vs. John Maine (0-0 3.60)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: Maine had a pretty good game in his first start against the Marlins, going 5 innings and giving up 2 runs. With Mike Pelfrey feeling the effects of tendinitis, the Mets need Maine and the other starters to make sure they pick up the slack. The Mets need to take the rubber game of the series tonight against a weaker team from the west coast. This is the kind of series that the Mets need to win this season if they expect to be contenders.

Game Preview: Padres at Mets [Game 8] April 15, 2009

San Diego Padres logoSan Diego Padres (6-2 Road: 1-0) at New York Mets (3-4 Home: 0-1) 7:10 pm

Kevin Correia (0-0 4.50) vs. Oliver Perez (0-1 16.62)

TV: SNY, ESPN2  RadioWFAN

What to watch: The Mets host baseball’s main celebration of Jackie Robinson Day at Citi Field. Expect there to be a big pre-game festivity on the field. Gary Sheffield gets his first start as a Met in right field. We have absolutely no idea what to expect from Oliver Perez tonight. He appears to be getting more erratic this season than ever, and that’s saying something. Hopefully, he can get back on track tonight and get the Mets first win at Citi Field.

Game Preview: Padres at Mets [Game 7] April 13, 2009

San Diego Padres logoSan Diego Padres (5-2 Road: 0-0) at New York Mets (3-3 Home: 0-0) 7:10 pm

Walter Silva (0-0 3.60) vs. Mike Pelfrey (1-0 7.20)

TV: SNY, ESPN  RadioWFAN

What to watch: We all know that the game is going to play second fiddle to the opening ceremonies of Citi Field tonight. But there is a game to play. Its going to be a cold one tonight so bundle up if you’re lucky enough to be going to the home opener. The Padres are Jake Peavey, Adrian Gonzalez, and a bunch of nobodies. They do come into town on a four game winning streak after sweeping the Giants. Silva pitched five innings of 2-run ball against the Dodgers in his first start. He’s a 32 year old getting his first taste of the major league game. Pelfrey got a win against the Reds in his first start even though he didn’t pitch particularly well. We need more from Pelfrey if the Mets are going to be contenders this season.

Game Preview: Mets At Marlins [Game 6] April 12, 2009

Florida Marlins logoNew York Mets (3-2 Road: 3-2) vs. Florida Marlins (4-1 Home: 4-1) 1:10 pm

Johan Santana (1-0 1.59) vs. Josh Johnson (1-0 0.00)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch: Josh Johnson threw 6.2 shutout innings against the Washington Nationals on April 7. Hey, it was the Nationals but Johnson is another one of Florida’s really good, young pitchers. My guess is that a lot of people won’t see this one because of the holiday. But if you get a chance to watch all or part of the game its one of the best pitching matchup’s that we’ll see throughout the season.
