On Deck: June 7 Mets At Padres

New York Mets (30-30) at San Diego Padres (26-37) 10:05pm

Oliver Perez (4-4 5.70) vs. Cha Seung Baek (1-2 5.60)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Both starting pitchers are struggling this season. So if there ever was a game that we might see some offense at Petco Park, this is it. The Mets need to win both remaining games in the series against the Padres just to go home even. Unfortunately, they have to rely on Perez tonight. He only went .1 innings in his last start in San Francisco but you never know what you’ll get from him.

On Deck: June 6- Mets At Padres- Game 2

New York Mets (30-29) at San Diego Padres (25-37) 10:05pm

Johan Santana (7-3 3.20) vs. Randy Wolf (3-4 4.33)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Santana looks like he’s really starting to sharpen up his game. Unfortunately, the Mets are in a position now where they have to win three games in a row to take the series from the Padres. It’s hard to believe that the Padres have become Brian Giles, Trevor Hoffman, Adrian Gonzalez, and a bunch of Triple-A players. I feel sorry for their fans having to watch that team every day.

On Deck: June 5- Mets At Padres

New York Mets (30-28) at San Diego Padres (24-37) 10:05pm

Mike Pelfrey (2-6) vs. Josh Banks (2-0)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets begin a four game series against the Padres tonight. Mike Pelfrey looked good in his last no decision start but he’s been inconsistent. He goes against Josh Banks, a rookie who threw a complete game with no earned runs on Saturday against the Giants.

On Deck: June 4- Mets At Giants

New York Mets (29-28) at San Francisco Giants (25-34) 3:45pm

John Maine (5-4) vs. Matt Cain (2-3)

TV: SNY  Radio: WFAN

What to watch: After the triumphant return of Pedro Martinez last night, John Maine tries to finish off the series win with a victory today. The Mets really should take a series from a team as bad as the Giants, even if it is on the road. Look for some of the veterans to get a day off for a day game after night game. I like the way the bench players have been going this season, so I don’t expect much of a drop off.

On Deck: June 3- Mets At Giants

New York Mets (28-28) at San Francisco Giants (25-33)  10:15pm

Pedro Martinez (0-0) vs. Barry Zito (1-8)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: Five years ago this would’ve been a great pitching duel. Now it’s a mystery. Pedro is always hurt, and Barry Zito’s skills have dropped off a cliff. The Mets need to take both remaining games from the Giants to salvage this series after getting bombed last night.

On Deck: June 2- Mets At Giants

San Francisco Giants

New York Mets (28-27) at San Francisco Giants (24-33) 10:15pm

Oliver Perez (4-3 4.83) vs. Jonathan Sanchez (3-3 4.26)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Giants are a really bad team this season. But it’s a tough break for the Mets to play Sunday night fly to SF and then have to play a game the same day. I wouldn’t expect to see the Mets geriatric set playing tonight (Delgado, Castillo). As usual, who knows what’s going to happen with Perez pitching.

On Deck: June 1- Dodgers At Mets

Los Angeles Dodgers (27-2) at New York Mets (2-27) 8:00pm

Hiroki Kuroda (2-4 3.29) vs. Johan Santana (6-3 3.41)

TV: ESPN Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets could take three out of four in this series with win tonight. That would be huge for Willie Randolph’s attempt at a return to respectability for this team. Johan Santana goes tonight on national TV. I’d love to see him go all nine innings tonight; we still haven’t seen his best stuff yet this season.
