You may have noticed some changes to the site today. I’ve had the same layout for more than a year and wanted to change things up a bit. The Mets should really try the same as well. There are some things that I’ve been doing with the site over the last year that just didn’t fit into the layout that I was using. So it was time for a change.

You’ll notice my Twitter and Facebook profiles are much more prominent now. That’s something that’s developed over the last year along with the site.

The site is also less complex now making it faster to load in your browser. That was a big priority for me. The sophistication of the previous layout didn’t lend itself to speed.

I hope you like the changes and it’s still somewhat in progress. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Game Preview: Rockies at Mets [Game 100, 101] July 30, 2009

rockiesColorado Rockies (54-46 Road: 27-25) at New York Mets (48-51 Home: 27-20)

Jason Hammel (5-5 4.28) vs. Johan Santana (11-8 3.12) 12:10pm

Jorge De La Rosa (8-7 4.78) vs. Jon Niese (1-0 4.08) 7:10pm

TV: SNY(both games)

What to watch: We have another dual-admission double header after the rain out last night. The Mets have a chance to sweep the four game series today, which would be huge for this team. Hammel hasn’t pitched badly but he hasn’t won a game in five starts and he generally doesn’t pitch more than 6 innings. Santana is coming off a terrible start in Houston in which he gave up 5 runs and 12 hits in 6.2 innings. De La Rosa has won his last six decisions and hasn’t lost a game since June 16. Niese pitched a great game in Houston after his recall from the minors. It would be terrific if he could follow that up with another good one tonight.

Former Met Dykstra Files For Bankruptcy

According to ESPN, Lenny Dykstra filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. His filing listed no more than $50,000 in assets and between $10 and $50 million in liabilities. He’s also facing approximately 20 lawsuits regarding his activities as a financial entrepreneur and his magazine, The Players Club.

Dykstra retired in 1996 after winning the World Series with the Mets in 1986 and losing the World Series with the Phillies in 1993. He’s the first player that I can remember seeing get huge in one offseason and thinking that it couldn’t be natural. He was named in the Mitchell Report based on information from Kirk Radomski that Dykstra used performance enhancing drugs during his career.

I’ve seen television interviews with Nails recently regarding his various business ventures. It was sad to see him coming across like he was selling snake oil. While I was watching, I was thinking that it would hard to imagine anyone trusting him with any amount of money.

Become An Owner Of A Baseball Team, For Real

Our Baseball HavenThere’s a goup in New Haven, CT that’s gathering investments for a baseball team using the crowdsourcing model of ownership. It’s a very cool idea. Although this doesn’t have anything to do with the Mets, I thought that the readers here would find this interesting.

You can see what they’re doing at Our Baseball Haven. You can also follow them on Twitter at twitter.com/ourbaseballhvn. I met Brett Orzechowski, one of the organizers, at an event in New Haven and the idea seems very compelling. It’s been done with a soccer team in England already so this isn’t brand new.

The annual membership fee is $100.00 and you’ll be able to vote, as an owner, on the issues that impact the team. The team is going to be a professional independant or collegiate summer league team. Check it out…

Report: Braves Release Tom Glavine

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting today that the Braves released Tom Glavine after he threw six scoreless innings in the minors yesterday. He’s recovering from minor elbow and shoulder surgeries in the off-season.

Apparently, the Braves told him that they’re releasing him because his velocity is down. Velocity is down? When did he ever have velocity? It sounds like a low-class move on the surface but I’d like to hear Frank Wren’s side of the story.

I never liked Glavine on the Mets just because he was an iconic Brave when he got here. But he deserves better than this from the Braves. I’ll be curious to see what the Braves bloggers have to say about this.

Mets-Pirates Rained Out June 3, 2009

WFAN radio is reporting that the Mets-Pirates game tonight is rained out in Pittsburgh. The teams are scheduled to play tomorrow at 12:35pm so it would make sense to play a double header tomorrow.

The injured Mets could really use an extra day off though right now. So they’re probably trying to work out a date when they can get back to Pittsburgh for a game later this season. So Mike Pelfrey will be moved back to tomorrow’s game as things stand right now.
