Game Preview: Phillies at Mets [Game 26] May 6, 2009

Chan Ho Park (0-1 8.57) vs. Johan Santana (3-1 1.10)

TV: SNY, ESPN RadioWFAN

What to watch:  On paper, this is about as big of a pitching mismatch as you’ll find. That’s what scares me about this game. Park is likely pitching to keep his spot in the rotation and that can be dangerous for the Mets. Santana has been nearly flawless this season, so I hope that he can keep that up.

Mets 4- Braves 3 May 5, 2009

The Mets complete the 2-game sweep of the Braves in Atlanta tonight. That was a close one that shouldn’t have been as close as it was. Livan Hernandez was outstanding tonight going 6.1 innings giving up only 1 run. He only threw 74 pitches on the night. It was a really good game for him. He had a nice sacrifice bunt and threw out a runner at third as well. Great game for him.

David Wright had two hits again tonight but still looks like he has a wicked upper cut to me. But if he can keep hitting I guess it really doesn’t matter. Ramon Castro was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and an RBI. He’s been making a case to get the bulk of the playing time at catcher until Brian Schneider gets back from the disabled list.

The real fun came at the end of the game. Carlos Delgado had a nice 2 RBI single with the bases loaded to make the score 4-1. It turned out that they needed those runs. Delgado dropped a routine pop up with 2 outs and 2 runners on. That kept the inning alive and the Braves scored two runs off Francisco Rodriguez. But it wasn’t enough to avoid the sweep as the Mets were able to get out of the jam.

Livan Hernandez (1-1 6.75) vs. Kenshin Kawakami (1-3 7.06)

TV: SNY RadioWFAN

What to watch:  The Mets go for the short series sweep tonight in ATL. Kawakami was one of the Braves big pitching signings this offseason and has been a big disappointment so far. He got rocked in Cincinnati in his last start giving up 8 runs in 4.1 innings. Hernandez has been what we expected when the Mets signed him, very mediocre. We could be looking at a high-scoring game tonight.

Audio: Minaya, Manuel, Maine, Wright May 4, 2009

WFAN logoPrior to last night’s game against the Atlanta Braves Omar Minaya spoke to WFAN’s Ed Coleman about the decision to move Oliver Perez to the bullpen. That decision has certainly been controversial with the media and blogs typically arguing that Perez should have been sent to the minors. Listen to Minaya’s explanation of what happened below.
