On Deck: July 10- Giants At Mets Game 3

San Francisco Giants (39-52 Road: 22-24) at New York Mets (47-44 Home: 24-18) 1:10pm

Barry Zito (4-12 5.73) vs. John Maine (8-6 3.91)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets go for the three game sweep this afternoon and six wins in a row. The biggest bust in baseball history Barry Zito goes up against the Mets today. He has won four of his last ten starts though after a dreadful start to the season. Maine left his last start with cramping in his non-pitching arm but should be fine today. He hasn’t had a “bad” start since June 15th against Texas.

Players Union To Request Concussion Inquiry

The post concussion syndrome that landed Mets outfielder Ryan Church on the disabled list again has spurred the MLBPA to request treatment guidelines from Major League Baseball. There are several players that has been affected by concussions or even had their careers cut short including Mike Matheny and Corey Koskie.

Alan Schwartz of the NY Times reports this morning that the Players Association is questioning whether Church was treated properly my Mets medical personnel.

There’s been so much speculation about Church’s treatment this season. And rightfully so. The Times article even brings up the possibility that Church could be able to sue the Mets medical staff if it’s determined that he wasn’t treated optimally for his concussion and/or post concussion symptoms.

Video Highlights

It’s been since June 1st since Johan Santana last won a game. That changed tonight as the Mets shout out the San Francisco Giants for the second consecutive game and got their fifth straight win. The Mets are on a roll.

Santana only pitched five innings and left the game when the it was delayed for 40 minutes by rain. He only gave up three hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Aaron Heilman, Duaner Sanchez, and Joe Smith finished off the final four innings without allowing a Giants hitter to reach base.

The offensive star of the game goes to Carlos Delgado. He seems to have found his stroke over the last couple of weeks. He was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. Ramon Castro was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and his third homer of the year. Argenis Reyes came in as a pinch hitter and stayed in to play second base. And he went 2 for 2.

Jonathan Sanchez (8-4 3.87) vs. Johan Santana (7-7 2.96)

TV: SNY Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets looked terrific behind Mike Pelfrey last night for their fourth consecutive win. They really need to give Santana some run support. He’s pitched much better than his record. Sanchez is a touch lefty so maybe we’ll see Endy Chavez on the bench tonight and Ramon Castro getting a start.
