Image from WikipediaThe Mets road series with the Atlanta Braves gets started tomorrow night with John Maine going against Tim Hudson. The schedule for the series is:

- 4/6- 1:30pm SNY
I’ve been surprised to see how many baseball analysts have been picking the Braves to have a strong season. I don’t agree. Despite their $102 million payroll, I believe they’re going to about a .500 team maybe a little below. The departures of Andruw Jones via free agency to the Dodgers and Edgar Renteria via trade to the Tigers will have a negative impact on the team. They’ve still got some good players there but not enough to challenge the Phillies and Mets this season.
The Mets announced that Ruben Gotay was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves. Steve Register was returned to the Colorado Rockies and Anderson Hernandez was assigned to Triple-A.
I’m sorry to see Gotay go and Fernando Tatis make the team. I think the Mets will regret that move as the season goes on. Apparently, the Braves felt that Gotay would make the major league team since he’s out of options.
It seems like every baseball column that I’m reading today is filled with fearless prognostications. Personally, I think it’s silly so I’m not going to get into it. Predicting a team’s record after 162 game season?
You may say “Hey, you’ve linked to columns and videos with season predictions!”. Why? I’ve added a few links to prediction columns but I’ve been selective about it. I only link to my favorite columnists. I only add links to the writers that usually “get it right”.
I will say this: I’ll be moderately surprised if the Mets don’t win the East. The Phillies are pretty good, but not that good. Everyone else in the division looks like a sub-.500 team to me. It’s amazing how many people are picking the Braves to win the division or more this year!
Anyway, the reason for this post is that I found a good prediction column on Yahoo. It encompasses all of their baseball columnists at once. That’s the way to do it. Nice photo of Johan Santana in the column too.
I wish this video was a little longer because I can’t figure out what this guys strategy is for this season. I think that he’s trying to rebuild without sacrificing the season entirely. John Smoltz and Tom Glavine will still put some fannies in the seats and most of team isn’t ready for championship level baseball. He should just torch the major league club like the Marlins do. They have two World Series wins since 1997 to show for it.
