Beltran’s 13th Inning Homer Wins It 5-3

The game started out with Mike Pelfrey pitching into the ninth inning without giving up a run. I thought that the game was in the bag. Billy Wagner blew his second consecutive save by giving up a homer to Mark Reynolds with two strikes and two outs in the ninth to send the game to extras.

Carlos Beltran had a huge game offensively getting the first two RBI’s on the board in the fourth inning on a single off Brandon Webb. Webb would leave after the fifth inning when he was hit by a line http://www.mindanews.com/buy-imitrex/ drive by Carlos Delgado.

I thought that Willie Randolph panicked by taking Pelfrey out in the ninth inning after giving up a single to Stephen Drew. Randolph doesn’t have a good feel for pitchers. Pelfrey looked great tonight. Once again, he isn’t throwing as hard as possible keeping his fastball in the low 90’s and spotting it perfectly. He threw very few breaking balls but doesn’t need to. He can’t control the slider as well as he needs to, but it was good enough tonight.

Mets Come From Behind In 12 Innings To Win 7-6

If the Mets turn things around this season, mark this date on your calendar. The Met have their first come from behind win after the seventh inning this season. Fernando Tatis had the big hit off Justin Miller to score Carlos Beltran for the win.

There are so many things to talk about in this game. Endy Chavez hit a pinch hit solo homer in the ninth inning to tie the game and send it to extras. Luis Castillo and Jose Reyes also homered earlier in the game.

I like this lineup much better without Carlos Delgado in there. Damion Easley and Fernando Tatis are doing some nice things at the plate. They were both looking to hit behind runners and lift the ball for sacrifice flies. Those are the little things that you don’t get from Delgado, who’s usually swinging for the fences no matter what the situation dictates.

Aaron Heilman had another really nice outing. He pitched two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth with four strikeouts. It would be great to have him come back to form.

Oliver Perez was his typical unpredictable self tonight. He went six innings giving up five runs on four hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. The wheels came off in the sixth inning when he gave up six runs.

For the Marlins, Cody Ross hit two bombs. And I mean bombs. His second home run may have actually damaged Citi Field, it went that far. Both homers were off Perez.

The Mets take the series from the Marlins 2 games to 1. The Dodgers come to town tomorrow.

Mets Finally Get Win Over Rockies 9-2

Rookie Nick Evans was the story of the day playing in his first game as a Met. He went 3 for 4 with three doubles and two RBI’s. Now that’s the way to start your career! He played a solid left field, getting six putouts as well.

Claudio Vargas was excellent for seven innings today pitching on short rest. He only allowed 2 runs on four hits and a walk to go along with three strikeouts. Two of his first three starts have been really good. He could give Mike Pelfrey a run for the fifth starter spot when Pedro Martinez comes back next week.

Carlos Beltran had the big hit in the first inning; a three run double that set the tone for the Mets. Carlos Delgado also chipped in with his third home run in as many games. His average is still at .222 but at least he’s showing some power. His homer came in the ninth inning off Josh Newman in garbage time after looking silly against lefty starter Jeff Francis.

David Wright also had a solo homer in the second, went 1 for 3 and had a stolen base. Nice comeback game for him after looking pretty bad last night.

Ramon Castro went 3 for 4 with one RBI as well.

The Mets losing streak comes to an end after five games. Uhhh.

Braves Sweep Mets Again With 4-2 Win

The Mets fell below .500 after being swept in a four game series by the Atlanta Braves. The Braves are now 6-0 against the Mets in Atlanta.

Johan Santana takes the loss after going seven innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on 12 hits. That’s more hits than Santana has ever given up in a start during his career.

Things were looking good for the Mets when Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado hit back to back homers in the second inning. But that was all of the offense that the Mets could muster. Tim Hudson was able to shut down the Mets after that going eight strong innings.

Damion Easley wasn’t with the team tonight. He was in Arizona attending his son’s high school graduation. The Mets travel to Colorado tonight to begin a three game series against the Rockies this weekend.

Braves Rock Mets Again 11-4

The Mets lost their third straight game in Atlanta. Mike Pelfrey was awful giving up six runs over four innings. I have to give him a pass because his previous two starts were very good.

Jose Reyes, David Wright, and Carlos Beltran had two hits each. But they were no match for Jeff Francoeur who went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI’s. After getting hit in the second inning he went crazy with a singe, triple, and home run.

The momentum gained in the Yankees series is officially gone. The first three games against the Atlanta Braves have been ugly.
