http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets had no offense again and go down in flames for the ninth time on this road trip. R.A. Dickey was pitching well into the sixth when he appeared to injure his leg on a fielding play in front of the plate. Jerry Manuel pulled him with two outs in the sixth and the two had words on the mound. He was pitching masterfully only allowing 2 hits, no runs, no walks, and had 6 strikeouts.

The Mets offense was weak again with only 7 hits and 1 walk. Luis Castillo had 2 hits in the game and the Mets had 3 doubles but Clayton Kershaw is a tough pitcher and the Mets offense has been dreadful. That’s a bad combination leading to the Mets getting shut out again.

Pedro Feliciano gave it up in the eighth inning on a Russell Martin double that scored Matt Kemp and that was the game.

The Mets head home from a 2-9 road trip and will certainly face some dissatisfied home fans.

R.A. Dickey (6-4 2.73) vs Clayton Kershaw (9-5 3.15)

TV: WPIX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets try to even the series at 2-2 before heading home today from this 11 game road trip. The Mets have lost the last five games that Dickey started despite him pitching very well in his last four starts. The Dodgers have lost the last two games that Kershaw started. He hasn’t pitched as well over those starts against the Cardinals and Giants giving up 6 earned runs over 10.1 IP.

Video: Oliver Perez on Mets July 24, 2010 Loss

Here’s some video from ESPN talking to Oliver Perez after yesterday’s 3-2 loss to the Dodgers. Perez gave up the walk-off home run to James Loney in the 13th inning. He decided to go with the “everybody makes mistakes” argument for why he blew the game.

Mike Pelfrey (10-5 4.01) vs Carlos Monasterios (3-2 3.61)

TV: FOX   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets finally got a win last night and have a chance to take control of this series and possibly redeem themselves for an awful road trip this afternoon. Unfortunately, they have to do it behind Pelfrey who has just been dreadful. He hasn’t had a good start since the middle of June and appears to be getting worse with every start. He gave up 6 runs in 1.1 innings in Arizona in his last start. Monasterios has been working long relief for the Dodgers. He hasn’t started a game since he got rocked on June 18 by the Red Sox. We could see an offensive explosion by both teams today.

Mets 6 – Dodgers 1 July 23, 2010

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets got only their second victory on this long road trip and, really, their first legitimate win. Johan Santana was in complete control again going 7 innings and allowing only 1 run. He only gave up 5 hits and 1 walk. He was in control throughout the game. It was a classic Santana start.

The offense finally came alive after sleepwalking for the last week. The Mets had 8 hits and 4 walks. Surprisingly, Jason Bay was the star going 2 for 4 with a 3-run double in the eighth inning that broke the game open. He was out for early batting practice and it showed, not to mention he was moved down to seventh in the lineup so the pressure was off. Ike Davis also hit his 14th homer of the year off Vicente Padilla on a ridiculous Bugs Bunny curveball he was throwing.

The Mets outfield defense was on tonight too. All three outfielders were making plays including Bay doing a faceplant into the wall in left while making a great catch.

Johan Santana (7-5 2.87) vs Vicente Padilla (4-2 3.65)

TV: SNY   Radio: WFAN

What to watch: The Mets are falling fast on this road trip but they may have a chance tonight behind Santana. He’s been pitching brilliantly in his last four starts only allowing 2 runs over that span. But the Mets still need to score. That could be a problem against Padilla who has pitched really well in his last five starts only allowing 5 runs over that span.

Dodgers 2 – Mets 0 July 22, 2010

July 22, 2010 Los Angeles, CA..New York Mets starting pitcher Hisanori Takahashi pitches in action during the Major League Baseball game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium July 22, 2010 in Los Angeles, California..The Dodgers defeat the Mets 2-0.Louis Lopez/CSM.

http://view.picapp.com//JavaScripts/OTIjs.jsThe Mets lost their fourth straight game and it really should have been their seventh straight loss. Omar Minaya is with the team in LA now and told reporters before the game that Jerry Manuel’s job is safe. But not everyone’s job is safe on the Mets.

Hisanori Takahashi finally came back with a good start despite the loss going 7 innings and allowing only 2 runs. He allowed 1 run in the first inning and I was thinking “Here we go again”. But he recovered nicely and only allowed 3 hits and 2 walks in the game.

The Mets offense is the problem again. They only had 5 hits and 2 walks as a team. Surprisingly, Jeff Franoeur was the player of the game going 2 for 4. He was telling reporters before the game that he would welcome a trade for more playing time.

The misery continues for Mets fans as we watch our hopes of postseason play disappear before our eyes.
