Citi Field Tours

The Mets announced that they’re going to start offering tours of Citi Field on Memorial Day weekend. It’s only $10 for adults and $7 for kids and senior citizens. The tour is 60 minutes and includes the Empire Suites, the dugout, walking on the field, the clubhouse, and the Mets Hall of Fame.

It sounds like a good deal and I’m surprised that the Mets haven’t offered this sooner. I did a tour of Safeco Park in 2002 when I was in Seattle and it was awesome! I wish I could find the photo of me at the Mariners press conference table. It was a blast though. You’ll love the tour if you do it.

Mets Bernazard Interviews In Seattle

The Seattle Mariners interviewed Mets VP of Player Development Tony Bernazard on Friday for their vacant GM position. The word is that Bernazard is a long shot for the job. Last off-season Bernazard interviewed, unsuccessfully, for the Pirates GM job.

Its difficult to gauge exactly what value Bernazard brings to the Mets. You’ll remember he was the subject of scrutiny in June of quietly engineering the firing of Willie Randolph. Who knows if there’s any truth to that?

Mariners Release Richie Sexson

The Seattle Mariners released struggling first baseman Richie Sexson today. The last year and a half have been horrendous for Sexson in Seattle. This season he’s hitting .218/ .315/ .381 with 11 HR and 30 RBI’s in 252 AB.

The Mets have to at least consider the possibility of offering Sexson a deal if he clears waivers. He’s in the last season of a 4 year/$50 million contract. He’s owed just under $7 million for the remainder of this season.

He’s a right handed hitter with power but a limited defensive first baseman. He’s only made two errors this season. The same total he had all of last season but suffers from limited range.

Considering that Moises Alou is having setback after setback, the Mets need to consider the need for a right handed power hitter.

Sexson isn’t the ideal solution because he can’t play the outfield, but Omar Minaya needs to think about it if he clears waivers (which he will).
