Video: ESPN on Mets Jose Reyes Future

Here’s some video of Baseball Tonight’s Aaron Boone talking about the Mets future with Jose Reyes. He suggests trading Reyes for the long-term benefit of the team. Boone also goes on to suggest that the San Francisco Giants are a team that would be a great fit for Reyes.

I’ve always resisted the talk of a fire sale over the last couple of years. But I’m on board now. The long-term deals the Mets have in place are coming to a close for the most part. It’s time to start making some deals to re-stock the Mets for the future. They certainly don’t look like a team that’s going anywhere this year so they might as well try to bring in some young talent.

    I have to agree with you. There is very little hope for this year's team. It is in the best interests of the team and fans alike to sell off some of the veterans and rebuild for the future.

      Mike, speaking for myself on this one… I would be more interested in seeing some younger players out there this year that might be building for the future than a team of veterans that are spinning their wheels. I would even be open to trading David Wright if the return was really good.

    I'm still holding on for a miraculous turnaround.

    I'm expecting the Met's game plan to be:
    Reyes, Beltran, K-Rod, and Pelfrey traded for prospects.
    Terry holds the reins for a couple of rough years while while the prospects develop in the minors.
    Prospects, along with Wally, are promoted to the Major League team.

      That sounds logical to me. And I think Collins is the type of manager that would have a positive impact on younger players that need time to develop. I also think he's the type of guy that could stay positive through a year or two of losing seasons.

    Yeah cause the Mets have always been so good at making trades. Ryan-for-Fergosi anyone? Reyes loves playing in NY, so who's to say he won't take a little less money to stay? The difference between $10 million a year and $15 million is not that much.
