Here’s the audio from WFAN’s Saturday morning show with Evan Roberts. SI’s Jon Heyman calls in to talk about:
- Roy Halladay– Could be traded to the Yankees or Red Sox
- Mark DeRosa– Free agent that may sign with Yankees or Phillies
- Luis Castillo– The object of trade rumors going to the Cubs in a 3 way deal bringing back Kevin Millwood
- NL Cy Young Award– Controversy surrounding how Tim Lincecum won the award when Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter actually had better seasons
As far as I’m concerned, Halladay shouldn’t even be on the Mets radar until they resolve some of the problems with their position players. As Heyman says, it’s unlikely that the Mets want two starting pitchers making #1 starter money. It’s not the right allocation of resources unless Halladay falls into their lap.
DeRosa would actually be an interesting thought for left field for the Mets. Minaya should get a bead on what kind of contract he’s looking at. If he could get DeRosa for two years, I would definitely consider him for left field if plans for Matt Holliday and Jason Bay fell through.
The Mets are still trying to dump Castillo but I’d be shocked if they could get a quality player like Millwood back for him. I’m thinking that they’ll have to take someone else’s bad contract back for Castillo like Juan Pierre, Milton Bradley, or Jose Guillen.
