Mets Road Trip Preview: May 28- June 2, 2010

Travellers Begin To Return Home After Flight Restrictions Are Lifted Mets have proven they can win at home; they have the Majors best home record at 19-9. Now they need to shake their funk on the road, where they have a 6-14 clip, which is the worst in the National League and 3rd worst in the Majors.

Friday, May 28th: Mets (Santana) vs. Brewers (Gallardo) 8:10 PM
Saturday, May 29th: Mets (Nieve) vs. Brewers (Parra) 7:10 PM
Sunday, May 30th: Mets (Dickey) vs. Brewers (Wolf) 2:10 PM
Monday, May 31st: Mets (Takahashi) vs. Padres (Correia) 10:05 PM
Tuesday, June 1st: Mets (Pelfrey) vs. Padres (LeBlanc) 10:05 PM
Wednesday, June 2nd: Mets (Santana) vs. Padres (Richard) 6:35 PM

The Mets will start their road trip against the disappointing Milwaukee Brewers, who are 19-28, 8.5 games back of NL Central-leading Cincinnati. The Brew Crew hasn’t been able to buy a win at home this year, going 6-15 at Miller Park.

The Mets will go from visiting one of the most underachieving teams in the league to one of the most overachieving in the San Diego Padres, who currently lead the NL West with a 28-19 record. Their secret has been in their pitching, as they’ve allowed the fewest runs in the MLB this year at only 153 through 47 games (3.25 runs a game).

Predicted Road Trip Record: I was preparing the past few days to say the Mets should go 3-3 on the road trip, and then come back to Citi Field and do some more damage.

But you know what? Screw ’em. The Mets have Mike Pelfrey on the mound once, and Johan Santana twice during this road trip. They’re playing the worst home team in baseball. Plus, the Mets have been hitting on all cylinders the past five days.

That’s why I say the Mets will go 4-2 on this road trip, which would put them at a very respectable 29-25 when they come back to Flushing.
